General Medical issues thread

I couldnt even open my eyes when I woke up this morning. GP was good, now sorted with ABs, spray and drops.
It will be much better tomorrow. Cold flannel compresses are relieving as well.

Conjunctivitis extremely infectious
Wash hands very frequently
Please tell a cuddly 15 month old that.

It's easier to write scripts for hospital discharge if filled in the hospital as it's copied off the med chart but I also give out scripts that can be filled outside of hospital. Some like it others don't.
Glad you give out scripts @Quickstatus.
I prefer to take scripts with me (or get from surgeon beforehand) as hospital pharmacies can charge $$+.
When I challenged a hospital pharmac_ recently for charging 4 times the price I usually pay for fairly common antibiotics, was told the reason they need to do this is they "don't get the foot traffic through" as they don't sell other products.

In my previous life, I have have suggeted to my patients to ask to take script home, nuisance for the doc but good for the patient ( eye drops post cataract an exception!)

Actually have to say once I answered your previous comment I did wonder if I could
Might just ask the pharmac_ lol
I suppose they would have people who are not entitled to PBS medication discounts for various reasons
He is on quite a few different medications nowadays
MedAdvisor handles all scripts whether PBS or not (have only tried for humans:) ). Makes it really easy to reorder.

Thank you I will have talk to the pharmac_ about his scripts . That would be so much easier to manage with his repeats .
You can have multiple 'people" on med advisor one account?

This is one thing the UK does really well via the NHS, have been using electronic scripts for many, many years without issue. Just pull up and re-order in the app when needed. Can't even remember the last time I saw a GP........

@TheRealTMA , please. MedAdvisor appears to link you to one pharmac_. If that's the case, are you free to get a scrip filled in any other pharmac_, if you are travelling (I assume the other one would have to accept eScrips)?

If your dosage changes by discussion with the GP, can the medication be dispensed more frequently as you require it, or is it 'locked in' to the frequency designated on the scrip? What I mean is, if a packet contains 30 pills, and I'm prescribed one per day, it's needed to be dispensed monthly, give or take. If my GP by telehealth then says "OK, take 3 a day", will MedAdvisor allow me to get a packet every 10 days without a change in scrip with the changed dosage?

Yes it links to one Pharnacy but that’s what we do so all are recorded so we get to PBS safety net more easily.

MedAdvisor allows you to easily change the days left etc.

of course you can get scripts filled anywhere if you have the paper script. Personally, we find being tied to one pharmacist to be better.

Try it and see. It’s not compulsory to use it.

We use MedAdvisor app and get scripts electronically these days. MedAdvisor tells you when you are about to run out and you can order direct from the app.
I realised I'd signed up for this years ago and just logged in. Damned if I can get the app to change the pharmac_ now. I'm stuck on Priceline and it won't search for non Priceline pharmacies. I'd like to create a new account but it used my Medicare number. We've moved well away from the pharmac_. Any clues?

Yes I tried that but all I get when I search in pharmac_ section all I get on my search is Priceline pharmacies. It's like Priceline have taken over the app and I can't expel them. It's branded the app Priceline.

I'll go into my most regular pharmac_ today and ask them about the app. They have their own, so may not be keen, but I guess its my choice.

Seems to me that if you go the app, you should go eScrips as well and then not being able to go to a different pharmac_ would be a deal breaker. There's no pharmac_ where I live, so I usually go to one on the way to Hobart, but sometimes timing doesn't work, so I go elsewhere on that trip.

Is the safety net expenditure tied to one pharmac_? I would think its a centralised calc when they process scrips at any pharmac_?
