General Medical issues thread

And surprise surprise the pills are all sugar… if you’re lucky!!
No they're not.

The hospital gave mother in law prescription for antibiotics and we filled that script at a recognised pharmac_ and I also bought antibiotics to bring back. They don't give different antibiotics for a script or without script.

You guys can do what you believe is right. I want the ability to self medicate when I know what's wrong. I didn't need a doctor to confirm cellulitis. That's a simple diagnosis.

As long as you can differentiate between common cellulitus and Necrotising Fasciitis then that approach is OK.
I've not sure I can tell the difference but I've had cellulitis 3 times in 18 months and this 4th episode was an easy diagnosis and I caught it extremely early. I'd assume with necrotising fasciitis I'd have blisters, high fever, the whole body sore etc.

I think you're misunderstanding my position. I would not skip seeing a doctor but its possible that I can't see a doctor for 2-3 days so I need to be in a position where I can have a head start so I started antibiotics early and the saw doctor late on day 2 of infection and a further 2 days of kefalecin the cellulitis pretty much cleared.

Back in February went to medical centre with wife having UTI and the doctor we saw was concerned it was covid and took swabs to check. Stupid. I'll stop short of saying this doctor should not be practising. I had to basically insist she request urine sample and antibiotics as the symptoms pointed to UTI not Covid.

P'rhaps it is allasame in Thailand, but all sorts of drugs are available in Mehico, @JohnK would be in rapture…..
I was tempted to stock up on amoxycyllin but our gp always allows us some for travel and who knows what might be in the box
Their pharma industry must be very advanced as they have stuff nobody else sells and with my ageing memory I was somewhat tempted..

…edit apologies to @JohnM for the name error…..

Can you bring me back some of them thar Intelligence Pills? Maybe 2 boxes.

Let's assume the scans are all normal. I suggest you your wife discuss with a urologist/gynae
Back in hospital again.

If I understand correctly the Piptaz wife had in hospital + Fosfomycin would be equivalent to a week's treatment but that does not appear to have killed the e.coli bacteria.

Back on Piptaz again for 24 hours then review. There's one antibiotic left they can try as a last resort and that kills everything but also comes with side effects. Name escapes me.

Also mentioned this is not necessarily same infection from February but 4 separate infections. Crikey.

I think we'll need to see specialist but not sure how quickly we can get appointment.

Are covid boosters still free?

Work is doing the flu vouchers for staff again. I got a flu shot and covid booster at the same time last year. Considering the same again this year.

Yes Covid boosters are still free.

I'm currently on antibiotics for cellulitis infection but as soon as I'm off antibiotics I will go and have Booster #6 + flu vaccine on same day from medical centre.

Yes, free if you can find a GP/ medical practice who has stock @Himeno

Amcal chemist in Melbourne will charge $14.99 but as luck would have it, contacted a GP (20 minutes away) who administered our last dose, still has stock and bulk bills.
Booked for next Monday 🥼

Terry White had heaps (they said they were throwing it away as it was expiring before they could use it all). And its free.

I am off to Terry Whites for my free flu vac today. They are very helpful. Lots of appointments available. Timing at my doctors was much harder. They have a variety of vaccines available-some paid for but the national free one is plentiful at the moment.

We now preferably get our vaccinations from our local pharmac_ rather than seeing the GP (who doesn' bulk bill). Faster, cheaper and able to stick to appointment times.

Yes. All of those. Especially the last 😂. Although I did a walk in flu shot last week or so to the pharmac_.

Had 2nd Shingrix vaccine yesterday, arm really heavy and sore last night but good as gold today.

Practice Nurse said free government stock supplies have been depleted and no idea when they can get more vaccines, we were fortunate to get their last two.

So no issues if I get a covid booster "early"
Had my last one in late June last year. Technically not meant to get another one for 12 months.
If I went into a chemist tomorrow, they wouldn't have a problem?

If you are immunocompromised or otherwise meet the criteria it's fine to get it early. If you are younger and healthy it's a no. I got a letter from the clinical trial I'm part of in order to get mine early.

Yep. We can’t even get first and have been on the list for months now. They were short supply - well not really in supply since the announcement.
