It's that time of year where I go back to back illnesses for all of autumn I spent three weeks with some chesty thing, had one week reprieve and now am on week two of another cold. Felt like death last week, feel ok this week but can't kick the symptoms.

Surgery on my shoulder last week. Now in a sling, and not allowed to drive for SIX weeks. (Ack!) I'm an old bachelor and I have to say I did not imagine just how difficult living with one useable arm would be. It reaches the point of hilarity at times... "Nope..can't do that either!" Thank goodness for friends is all I can say. And for decent commercial frozen meals. I stocked up on everything, not realising that even chopping vegetables (or opening jars) was going to be so difficult. Bright side? I am catching up on reading I never seemed to have time for. And...napping has entered my life....

Last one we had in hospital was on Ketamine infusion for 5 days plus other stuff.

And...napping has entered my life....

It's a horrible recovery so wish you luck. Have you been instructed how to shower using an empty water bottle to hold your arm out properly? I found best bottle to use is a Campbells V8 juice bottle. I have had more than one surgery. I am happy to explain it to you off-thread.

I managed to only take Oxycodone at night and just panadol osteo during the day. I hate oxy. But do what works for you. You heal faster if you are not in pain. When you are able to do away with the sling at night, use a pillow or two placed half way down the bed...now roll onto it with your bad shoulder uppermost. Pillow should support you under the front of your hips. It really helps with quality of sleep.

Is Mr Seat 0A getting vaccinated?
The Australian Immunisation Handbook recommends shingles vaccination for specific groups including:

• people aged 50 years and over
• immunocompromised people aged 18 years and over
• people aged 50 years and over who live in the same household as someone who has a weakened immune system.

thank you, and yes, he has already started the process. He's over 65 so also got it for free.

Am now ready!

I've convinced the American couple we've become friends with to visit her opthamologist when she gets home. .

Gosh, I took off all bandages the first day and only had to sleep with a plastic cap. And was watching TV the same night.

When I ruptured my quad I became convinced of the superiority of tapentadol (Palexia) over oxy. Got off as soon as I could but has changed my practice with my own patients

Maybe just a little different?
They trade some side effects.
I found tramadol more useful in herpetic neuralgia but never tried tapentadol in those patients.
I mainly saw side effects of tapentadol in those elderly patients who presented post orthopaedic surgery.
