General Virgin Australia Lounge Discussion

A question - are SHOWERS back working in MEL Domestic?

Have a client arriving from Europe on Etihad and takes his MEL-SYD last leg and, would love a shower after 24 hours on planes.

Merci.

Zero on Virgin website about of course, so thought I'd ask here first. :D

I saw people carrying towels around today in Sydney. I assume they were having showers.

The lounge was an absolute s#%t show. Way too many people for the space. They really need to open up upstairs again. I know there has been some delays today but still it was uncomfortable as most areas were standing room only.

You should have seen the fight over those little burgers!!

Well foolish, foolish, me -- I stupidly looked at the Virgin Melbourne Lounge Website listing, which does not mention SHOWERS anywhere - and all other web reports state they were not open yet - hence my question here.

Yep I had one a couple of weeks ago. One of the showers was out of order and the other one wasn’t available for some reason, but there was a sneaky one in the ladies that I was eventually able to use.

Anyone ever done an in-depth analysis on the value of a life-time membership? I know if you are simply dividing the total cost by the yearly membership costs its about 24 years before you can get your money's worth. But has anyone factored in present value, potential price rises for lounge memberships, etc?

Personally I’ve never considered it as firstly you never know how long any airline will be in business for and secondly if you are only using the lounge a couple of times per year is it worth it? If you are using the lounge much more than that you probably have status so it just doesn’t seem worth it IMO

Priority Entry Sydney still not open peak time Friday morning last month 😟. After the long haul through security the VA lounge was packed to the rafters. No makings for sandwiches, just breakfast pots and toast. Not bothering next time, the food court is nicer!

What time was this? It should have been (believe it's 5-8 a.m. weekdays)

Any intel on if/when Virgin will open its lounge again in Cairns (CNS). Given they are kicking off international flights to Japan soon, I hope they are going to consider this. Any insights appreciated.

I think there just aren’t enough daily flights to justify it. If you count all of VA’s ops in CNS you barely have 15 flights. OOL sees 12 from SYD alone.

I’d love to see the CNS lounge reopen largely because the airport is just a shopping mall with no natural light at all. The lounge had nice views of the tarmac and was a little cosy space away from the chaos downstairs…

I just don’t see it happening. That being said if VA do decide to expand their lounge offerings, Cairns will definitely be next on the list.

Not hoping for much tbh. Their other international routes out of SYD, BNE and MEL don't get lounge access even though contract options are available - so clearly unwilling to pay. As mentioned, OOL gets more traffic than CNS and even that doesn't make it. Plus, Bain is planning to sell soon so I doubt such CapEx heavy investment would come into the picture until a new owner emerges.

EDIT: OOL has lounge!
