Germany’s Deutsche Bahn railway joins Star Alliance

Travellers will soon be able to earn frequent flyer points and enjoy status perks as they ride the rails across Europe.

I'll be curious to see how this will work in practice. It seems like you'll only be able to earn points on train journeys that are also booked as part of an airline itinerary, but it's not totally clear on that just yet.
