Get 50% more points when you transfer from Amex

Woohoo! I've just sent 5M their way and points and bonus posted virtually straight away.

I'm curious if you received any notification of the points offer?

It feels like really good value to me, as much for the ability to transfer to eg, United and Aeroplan, as it does to use for Marriott hotels --- ie, a 2:1 ratio for United or 2.5:1 ratio for Aeroplan feels great for Aussies, since unless you have a US card, you can't directly use those programs otherwise --- also, the downside risk, in the unlikely event that you can't use the points for Marriott or one of their 30+ airline partners is to transfer to eg, QFF/VFF for a 20% loss of points value, so that seems a fair contingency plan.

There's also a 30% bonus on transfers from Amex Membership Rewards to Hilton Honors this month, but that's far less interesting :)

Will send some AMEX to Ba via Marriott Bonvoy: 60K Amex = 60K MB (with 50% bonus) = 25K Ba (with 5K bonus) which is as best as it gets with an Australian credit card.

Just interested why you will transfer to avios. My preference is to alaska airlines because of their stopover policy, sweet spots, no cancellation fees and good IT.

Getting OT here, but Alaska is an excellent FF program, as are QR/BA and AC. Each has their own sweet spots and nuances which makes it worthwhile diversifying your points across them all, IMHO.

Regarding transferring points out of Bonvoy to airlines (looking specifically at Qatar)? I am wondering:
1. Timeframe to transfer in?
2. Is it true you have to have had your Qatar account more than 60 or 90 days (have read both) before you can transfer Marriott points in?

Timeframe to transfer in?

Amex quote some ridiculous timeframe for bonus points, but I've done two transfers this month and both were practically instant including bonus points.

Can't answer the QR question.

Good the bonus points posted immediately for the Marriott transfer.

For comparison, Hilton points transferred instantly for me, however, no bonus included. Guess that will be a few weeks away, per the T+C allowed timeframe.

Is anyone aware of whether there is a particular time of year that these transfer bonuses come up? I know they have had them in the past and have used them but never thought to note if there was any pattern to it.

May be worth checking on PointHacks. This post lists the history of all Velocity bonus transfer offers, Amex MR included. Transfer your points to Velocity for a 15-20% bonus - Point Hacks.

P.s. Called Marriott to enquire about transfer times from Bonvoy into specific airlines. Initially, I was told a blanket 'one week'. I confirmed this was for all airline transfer partners, as there was some content online indicating that it varied by program. The operator then tried to look it up for me. Apart from asking me if Qatar began with a 'C,' and how it was spelled, I was told should be within 7 days across the board.
Transferred from Membership Rewards into Bonvoy Sat 27th May, points were there by 5am Sunday 28th. Transferred straight on to BA. So far nothing, early days. I'm aware it's still been the weekend over there.
Update: Avios had arrived in my BA account as of first thing Tuesday 30th May. Had thought it would take considerably longer. Couldn't find much other info out there on specific transfer times out of Bonvoy so thought I'd leave it here.

Doesn’t look like we are getting a bonus transfer offer for Marriott or Hilton this May :-(

Its probably not yet ticked over to May in the USA. Hoping there might be something coming soon.
The velocity bonus is now showing in Amex Rewards but nothing under Marriott and Hilton
