Getting an Amex Platinum Edge

Having a history with Amex helps. Use the cc card as a charge card (i.e., pay the total amount owning at the end of each month) for about 6 months and ask again for another credit limit increase.

that is correct you best advise to wait 6 months, so they can check and see how your spending pattern and how are you paying you balance every single month

Best advise as well, try to spend as much as close to the limit but not over the limit (*bad)

Beware Amex is not a bank, its a credit card company

So they bank increases their customer limit is way different than Amex

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but I have something to add....

Amex called me yesterday regarding my recent application for a Platinum Edge card. There was a problem: I already had a Velocity Escape card and a Qantas Discovery card. Whilst they will allow three cards, only two of them can be credit cards.

(Long story short, I cancelled the Velocity Escape card there and then, and they're going to give me a Platinum Edge card.)

- Platinum Charge
- Platinum Reserve
- Platinum Edge
- Green Charge

I haven't been requested to close a account and I might also add that ALL of them are pooled with Ascent Premium.

I applied for a Velocity Platinum card this week.

I had a gold charge card, Platinum edge & DJS Amex I got a text as soon as I submitted my application. Told me I couldn't have more than one charge card or more than 2 credit cards. Ended up closing the DJS card. Got approval text the next day.

They don't seem to have transferred my DJS limit to my platinum edge as they'd promised so hoping won't have a fight on my hands getting limit back now DJS card is cancelled.

Kind of annoying you have to apply and be re assessed (including superfluous Veda check) each time you want to do a product transfer despite their constantly reminding me I've been a great member for >20 years. Easy enough to do a product transfer with the banks without re applying. Just my 2 cents worth.

But is one of those cards just a subsidiary card to your Platinum Charge or did you apply separately for all 4?

I would assume that you are only paying for three at most, and that at least one is effectively a comp card off another????

I got both Edge and Reserve put under Green and Platinum respectively. Technically should only have one personal charge, but not been pulled up on it. I did get all of them credit checked and I still had to apply for each one.

Green/Edge wasn't automatic, I had Edge before and enquired about comp carding it after I obtained Green.

It is only direct issued Amex' that the rule applies to. So take ANZ Black off your list.

Is either the Edge or the Reserve "free" due to it coming as a perk of the Charge? If so, take that of the list as well.

My edge was the free companion with my charge card but they still said no more than 3 products. Interesting to hear about other people's experiences.

Would having a platinum charge card maybe give you a little more leeway?

I had the same experience except they didn't call me but sent me SMS asking me to call back. I closed QF dicovery and kept Business Accelerator.

Under t&c's it says "The American Express® Platinum Edge Credit Card will have a $0 introductory annual fee for the first year of Card Membership. After the first year, the annual fee for the Basic Card will be $195. Offer only available to new Platinum Edge Credit Card Members who apply by 28 February 2015, and are approved. Card Members who wish to convert their existing American Express account to Platinum Edge will not be eligible for the offer. There is no annual fee for up to 4 Additional Cards. This offer excludes existing or previous Card Members who have held any American Express Card in the last 12 months."

I am only an additional card holder of another american express discovery card, would this exclude me from this promo?

I thought being a supplemetary card holder didn't exclude you.

The terms if signing up through referral link is a bit different. It doesn't mention anything about existing card holder (only when converting account). The agent confirmed last month I would get fee free even if I'm an existing card holder. Nothing showed up in my statement so far.

What does it mean by converting. So my partner has a Amex discovery. If she is referred for the platinum edge, and wants to go ahead with it (whilst still keeping the amex discovery).. that wouldn't be considered converting would it?
