Getting from SYD to Johor Bahru?

Does Sing charge a vehicle entry fee before 5pm?

There's all that sort of thing involved. Fees can be different at different times of the day and even on different days and holidays.

You can at times see parked cars waiting for the clock to tick before making the crossing.

All of that gets factored into the "best times to do it" arugments that seem to occupy a great deal of local converstion. :)

Yes! I once had a chauffeur car take me from Malacca to Sing. He refused to cross before 5pm. I paid him the levy/tax to cross before 5pm - I was not going to wait 45 min Lots of cars waiting for the clock to tick over.

Hey how long for, you reckon? Checking flights at the moment, looks like Thursdays are considerably cheaper & we could save $2k in airfares by arriving in KL 9 days before the wedding in JB … would 8 days in KL be too many? 4 was enough in Singapore … I guess we can always shelter in the aircon of the hotel for most of it. :)
Speaking of Malacca, why not make a side trip there since it's on the way from KL to JB?

Don’t forget to check out the cheap 1 way J fares on PR. Can often pick them up for under $900 out of KUL

You certainly can. I quite like Malacca. I've been there a few times now.

It's just that it's easier, transport wise, if your destination is JB, to avoid it.

I'd say too, that the main roads between JB and KL (and Malacca) are some of the most boring roads I've ever been on! There's not too much to see. Unless palm oil plantations are your thing. You have to get off the main roads for the sights. It's not awful, it's just not the best parts of Malaysia.

In case you missed this?

If you want to use the MH side trips you might be able to choose Langkawi or Penang. Both are quite nice tourist destinations.

I think Firefly (an MH subsidiary) even flys from Penang to JB, so no need to return to KL.

Not sure if Firefly is included in the deal.

Yeah I noticed that the cost was the same SYD<=>KUL as SYD=>KUL=>JHB and return.
However it looks like going SQ I can do it all as day flights on PE, SQ ain’t playing games with day-of-the-week so it’s the same cost every day … and I don’t think a 10am flight leaving SIN on a Sunday would be too Getting Up Stupid Early In JB? [alternative being an overnight flight & unsure if I want that in PE c/f with just getting up at 6am]

I wouldn't risk missing the flight even though it's the weekend...

Should be easily do-able. It would be an early start but not stupid early.

Most of my flights to Australia from JB have been done via SIN on the same day. Never missed one yet. Just allow 90 minutes to 2 hours to get to Changi.

But at that time of day, on a Sunday, in the JB-SIN direction, I suspect it should be quicker. JB is a popular weekend day trip destination for Singaporeans. I don't think Singapore is quite the same way for Malaysians.

Sunday evening no good apparently

It's the Singaporean day trippers going home. Well, that's one of the dozens of discussed theories! :)

You see LOTs of cars with registrations starting with an "S " parked outside JB restaurants on the weekends. :)

Its a few years ago now, but I flew to SIN, stayed overnight in a hotel and booked a day tour to Malacca on a tourist bus. Enjoyed the trip to through the countryside, seeing the various plantations etc, toured Malacca & old Chinatown, had provided lunch and then driven back towards SIN. Told to driver to stop and let me off with my luggage before crossing back to SIN.

Edited: to correct entry

Day tour to Penang by road from SIN?! Or do you mean from KL?

@Forg we’re crossing in a week or so and staying out near Legoland about 25 minutes out from Johor Baru.

Going to go via chauffeured vehicle from Singapore hotel to Johor, but because of where we’re staying likely that’ll be via Tuas (the second link bridge).
A few days before Xmas, I’m then crossing back to fly out of SIN, whereas missus and kiddo are going to be in a vehicle transfer up to KUL.

If I remember I’ll post some thoughts of how it goes.

If you do go for a few days in KL, I’d suggest heading up to the Cameron Highlands, about three or four hours north of the city. Genting Highlands are much closer but I’ve not been there.
