Not enough FlyBuys points - so what good is it?

I've been signed up on the program for about 3 years which is only about as long as the points last, so they're now dropping off as expired.

The FB card gets used fairly regularly; mainly the regular grocery shopping and at Shell if using the 4c vouchers, but I don't go out of my way to chase the special bonus offers.

I'm up at about 6,000 + points but a long way short of the minmum 10,000 I need to redeem anything.

I know until recently Coles-Myer made it possible to redeem for the 8c vouchers for as little as about 1,000 points, I think. But with that gone, is there any point in staying in it at all if I'm such a long way short of their magic 10,000 points?

The bottom line is I'm probably not profitable enough as a customer to warrant any type of reward.

Keep you eyes peeled; last year I redeemed 7500 FB points for a Tefal toaster with digitial readout. This had a market value ~$80; it was a "Web Site" only special deal.

I think I've been on FT too much - I read FB as Flying Blue

Oh and welcome to AFF fasteddie :)

Re: Not enough FB points - so what good is it?

Specials come up from time to time. I am sure at one poiint they offered me a $40 voucher for 6000 points or so.

Re: Not enough FB points - so what good is it?

Thanks for the welcome and all the feedback.

Looks like I'll stick with it for a bit longer. [....holds breath in baited anticipation]

Me too - can the thread title be edited to read FLY BUYS?

I just had a 2 hour VIP tour around 5 floors of the FB headquarters in Amsterdam this month, so was surprised to see an apparent thread about it here!

Re: Not enough FB points - so what good is it?

I think you can get movie tickets for 6000 points.

Re: Not enough FB points - so what good is it?

Tickets, toaster - ANYTHING would have been better than letting mine expire. About 15,000 were gobbled up IIRC.

"Cheapest" Movie Voucher Rewards are 11,000 points for 5 x Hoyts.

There's a couple of Reward offerings for about 10,000 points - but that's it for now.

Expiring points mean that my tally of 6,200 points will drop back to 3,866 by the end of the month. A complete waste of time signing up for this scheme in the first place. :-|

BTW - I've amended the thread title as requested. Sorry if I've wasted other people's time as well.
(Correction. I can't seem to be able to do this myself anymore. I've requested a moderator to fix)

Ummm... you can redeem a $40 Coles Myer Gift Card (and a number of other things) for 6000 points... Act Now! Here's the redemption code: https://www.flybuys.com.au/opencms/opencms/flybuys/content/awards/award_details?booking_code=BGGG

Other 6000 points awards: https://www.flybuys.com.au/flybuys/content/awards/search_results?campaign=1

I should add that the 6000 point awards don't come up on a search under Rewards for 0 to 10K points. It comes up when you click into the Membership tab.

Not mine. My comment about Flying Blue was meant light-heartedly.

Re: Not enough FlyBuys points - so what good is it?

FlyBuys rewards now available from 2,500 points - get a $20 Coles, Target or Kmart voucher, or $20 credit on your NAB credit card. Looks good!

The value is certainly poor, Bill; I guess in SE SE Oz it's even harder to get FlyBuy earning opportunities.

Without any additional expenditure; since it's inception I have been able to redeem: 1 x MEL-BNE return flight, 1 Dual Handset Cordless 'phone & 1 Tefal toaster. I have also had something like 21,000 points over the years expire when I had not enough points to redeem anything without forcing FlyBuy point earning expenditure. (... and one DOESN'T do that!)

'tis true Bill; otherwise why would I have let that many points expire? Like it was only 2k one year, 1.5 K the next, 5K another etc. More points would have expired if not for the 7K Toaster.

Back upto 8K now ... I've had the toaster 3 years.

I have had some great overnight stays. It takes me about 2.5 years of normal spending at Coles, Liquorland and Shell to knock up the points required for an overnight stay. Last year was the Saville on Russell in MEL for my birthday, Have also stayed at what was then the Mercure Resort at Surfers and the Grand Chancellor in MEL. All this for just normal spending.

Re: Not enough FlyBuys points - so what good is it?

The only benefit I see with Flybuys is that it not a choice between earning FB points or some other points. You can earn FB points at the same time as earning CC points for the same purchase.

I cancelled my FB account when my usual spend at Coles and Shell was not sufficient to earn enough points for an award before the points expire. This change for a lower redemption award would have kept me active, but I am not really tempted to start again now that I cancelled the account.

The perfect opportunity to double dip.
