Hi all,

I'd like to plan a trip to SIN (from MEL) in the not-too-distant future whilst adding to my points/SC balance in the process. I've not used any of my 4 Platinum upgrades so was thinking of doing one of the following:

  • Book via VA on a Flexi fare via Perth, upgrading on the MEL-PER leg and maximising my points earn for the price (I'm assuming that being booked on a VA codeshare flight precludes upgrading on the PER-SIN leg)
  • Book via VA on a Flexi far to PER and upgrade and book the PER-SIN leg directly with SQ, transferring Velocity points to KrisFlyer and upgrading

Does anyone have experience attempting something similar to these options? If there's an option I've not considered, I'm very interested in knowing about it.

Keep in mind that taxes/surcharges will be a lot higher if your redemption is SQ-ticketed rather than VA-ticketed.

To use Krisflyer points you need to purchase the most expensive Y ticket. Not sure how upgrade requests work though with SQ.

I recently used VA points to transfer to SQ and cost me 93,000 krisflyer points + $680 in taxes etc for MEL-SIN-USM-SIN-MEL in J. VA did not have any J reward seats and the full J was 380,000 points one way.

Am saving my points now for an F reward on SQ. Only another 100,000 points to go
