Dropped the boy at SYD for QF21 to Narita last night and it was almost creepily quiet....

Narita on arrival this morning at 0612 their time.. No lounges open ... nada.

Sydney I can believe ... but I would have thought Narita would have _something_ open 24/7...

(he's in transit so in for a boring wait until something opens .... told him to pack snax.....)

Are even the world's busiest airports dead in the morning?? (yep, we don't travel often:-)

Sounds like he's doing the run to Europe via NRT. Most QF21s have a few Aussies on it going to LHR. Last year when I was there it was just as quiet - with a few of us camping outside the Sakura lounges until they opened. I took a few photos, will go home tonight and see if can dig them up and load them.

Welcome to AFF jemima. :)

I took the QF21 about 8 years ago and NRT was quite busy (with people, cannot recall if shops were open) when I arrived, but it was my destination, so I did not end up in the transit/departure area where the lounges are!

NRT can be like that. Often arriving late evening (around 9-930pm) can be equally deserted in the arrivals hall. Last train to central is like 10pm.

Even Singapore is pretty quiet from 1am onwards. Most of the shops are shut or about to shut. Going towards 2am when the last flights of the evening (very early morning) leave it gets very empty. Just a few people sleeping staying the night.

I have taken the 2:30am Emirates flight from Brisbane (never again) and the airport very empty. All the shops/food outlets were shut except for the cafe below the Qantas club. A few people clustered around the Emirates gates at the end of the pier trying for a quick nap. But pretty much the rest was deserted.

I once landed at Taipei after the flight was delayed 4 hours from KL at about 3am. There were two very tried looking customs officials manning the desks. But after customs a security grill had been lowered and locked in place so could not continue onto baggage claim. Had to mill around waiting about 10 minutes for security guard to come and unlock it.

Would love to see the photos :)

ok here are a few. Basically had about 4 hours to kill- the first two before the lounge opened. From memory- the lounge opened at 8am and we landed around 6am. The onward flight to London was around 10am. I used the 2 hours to wander the whole of Terminal 2 - both the main and the annex. It was really enjoyable - being in such a clean airy and bright building without a soul around. No security, nothing.

It is very strange feeling like the only person in the terminal.

I had this in SIN and also HKG.

I have slept the night in NRT, great airport to sleep in. It essentially shuts from about midnight to 6am. The security heard all the overnight bums in to one area, take note of your passport number and boarding pass for next day (need to prove you are travelling or they boot you out.). The lights and PA system is turned off an then it is easy to get a few hours shut eye with the 20 or so other people doing the same thing.
