Hi all,

Get your FREE giffgaff SIM abroad!

Order: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dFpHTmsyV3hWOEk3T3BUaWdQU2lLR0E6MA

Noted the above site to get it delivered here before trip...anyone used?
How do you activated it...only when in U.K?

Put it in a Nokia3310 or Nexus 4?

3weeks in U.K to book accom in U.K and FOR people back home to contact on?

What plan would you chose?
10pounds 500 minutes?
Ring number and use 28 degrees card to topup or do you have to do activation online?

Tethering allowed for 10pound goodybag?

Would you have it delivered to Cheap Heathrow Motel for collection on arrival?

We had our sim mailed by an AFFer.
If there is time get them to mail it to you in Australia after you have paid £10.
We put into our UK I Phone

Any chance you can get that AFFer to mail a sim over aswell if I give them the details?
I don't believe Giffgaff mail outside U.K.
Did you activate online in Australia?

Activating your new SIM - The giffgaff community

It looks like only UK credit cards are accepted?
The other option is to buy a voucher from a corner store.

From Activating your new SIM - The giffgaff community
You'll be able to test the signal strength before spending any money, but payment is required to activate your SIM. You can pay using most major UK credit or debit cards, or pop to the corner shop and get a giffgaff top-up voucher, We also accept O2 top up vouchers - as we run on the O2 network.

And only the gigabags allow tethering from what I can tell.

I might get a free sim sent to my hotel for next week.

We use Giffgaff all the time in the UK and Europe thanks to the original AFFer (can't remember who sent it to me) who listed them here. We now have multiple sims running, one me and SWMBO, one for the mother in law and one for the father in law. My parents take my sim when they go. Trick is you need to use it every 6 months to keep it active, if we (or our sim) is not in the UK every 6 months, we put into one of phones here and send an sms.

Unfortunately I have just given my last new sim away, otherwise I would send you one. I have more on order and will pick up when next back in the UK.

I use the 12pound goodybag giving me unlimited internet on my iphone. However do be aware that they are very apt at picking up sim swapping into an ipad (or tethering) on unlimited goodybags. No problems for a limited goodybag,, we accidently fell victim to this when we swapped the wrong sim into an iPad and had the service suspended.

Do alos be wary that Giffgaff are in the process of looking to change their 12, 15 and 20 pound goodybags, with the 12 and 15 no longer having unlimited internet.

Also forgot to mention, we have no problem setting up or recharging using our Australian (CBA) credit cards when using Giffgaff. I find the app great to manage the accounts, however it is one account per sim.

So get it sent here from the link I posted?
Then have to log on to PC here and activate the week before leaving as it is a month from activation date or when credit loaded on?
Turn on phone after getting off plane, giffgaff does its thing on android phone and you are live to talk?
Has an app to follow usage? Coverage is all of U.K?

I can't comment on the use of the link you posted, haven't used it.

You can activate as early as you like, as you need to credit some money to activate (I think). I use this money for calling back to Aus etc. The goodybag starts from the date you pay for it. So if going longer than a month I choose the date that gets me the best coverage for my trip, if under a month, just pay for the goodybag a month before you leave UK.

Turn on phone after getting off plane, giffgaff does its thing on android phone and you are live to talk?
I believe Giffgaff does it thing on android but have no experience. With the iPhone 3 I used to have to manually adjust the settings, but the iphone 5 does it automatically.

Has an app to follow usage?
I use the app to recharge etc. You can have your settings so that the remaining free minutes and cash amount on your account sows at the end of each call. The problem with Giffgaff, is that you cant view your history of usage, only purchases.

Coverage is all of U.K?
Coverage is on 02, and like every network there are some places where you wont get range, for example I know a small town in Turton where there is zero range. In Australia with the Giffgaff sim in, my phone picks up telstra and I receive all the warnings sms about being overseas and the high rates of phone calls and data.

If I don't get the SIM card what is a suggested walkin(to shop) Prepaid service over there?

In London there are tiny phone shops everywhere mostly run by people who have English as their second or third language. If you are close to Trafalgar Square just walk in any direction. They all have something to sell you.

Well I ordered from Khairul and his link:

"You'll be pleased to hear that I do indeed still provide this service. You should receive the sim within about a week.
I've now moved the form to http://bit.ly/joingiffgaff so if you would like a SIM then please visit that link.
Regards,
Khairul"

See if we get it but prompt response to email sent directly to him.....which hopefully is a good thing!

HAs not arrived and sent email....he responded immediately and said he would send another :(
Not looking good!

Good news.....the SIM arrived from the link I provided!
Now to setup and activate.

Is in! Setup and activated in Australia... Says 1pound a minute in Australia....in UK will be 10p right?

I use Skype when I am in the UK to call Australia if I have wifi. GiffGaff I use for UK calls.

Now for Europe 2016...anyone used Giffgaff in Europe?

Yes, I have and it works fine for us for short trips across various countries. If we were in one country for a decent period, I would purchase a local sim.

Just be careful, as pricing differs greatly between EU countries and neighbouring non EU European countries with big cost differences for calls and data.
