Gifts for cabin crew

I had my 5pk of Ferreros ready to hand to the FA after meal service on QF650 last Wednesday, but the cup of ice I requested with my drink - which I knew wasn't a trolley item, and that they'd have to return with after the meal service - never eventuated, nor was there any recognition it was forgotten.



No chockkies handed out that flight.

Had to give some Lindt bags on my recent flights BNE/ADL and ADL/BNE. Both CM's were really thrilled ana c couple of the FA's even thanked me. That's what it's about - making their day just a little brighter.

Got BNE/MEL and MEL/PER on Sunday, then PER/SYD and SYD/BNE on Wednesday (all VA), so will stock up and see how they are received

I picked up on this thread some time ago, and have since adopted the practice of giving chocolates to our flight attendants, it is a wonderful idea and is always truly appreciated, had a love personalized card/photo with senior steward on a recent Emirates flight, and everyone came by to say personal thanks. I usually take a few boxes of the large Cadbury mixed. I now do it on domestic flights, as well. Sometimes not as well received as on international flights. I am very thankful for find this little nugget of info.

Well I just gave sleeves of the FR chocolates to the CM’s on both my flights today. Thrilled they were - I had all the FA’s come up to me on my BNE/MEL flight and personally thank me.

Aboard my VA695 MEL/PER flight now and both the FA and CM at the door thanked me (you didn’t have to do that) and the CM came and gave me a bottle of water before pushback.

On my two return flights on VA, had some interesting chats with the crew.

The first flight, PER/SYD, both the CM and FA at the door were surprised and thanked me. I was in 4F and at the service, the FA gave me a bottle of water plus free snack and asked me if I’d like white or red wine (red please) ; whilst the CM after the J service brought me a red wine (in the recyclable paper cup). My seat mate (we had a middle seat shadow) kept looking at me wondering WTHAU (who the hell are you)



On my late night SYD/BNE flight, the FA immediately said “I’ve flown with you recently” as she’d receive another 5 pack of FR chocolates and thought it was me. So whoever you are (you flew on Monday 24th April with Danielle, a light redhead), well done . Similarly got great service and another good chat with the crew.

How do you think individual gifts would be received? Instead of giving a block of chocolate for sharing, or similar, giving small individual little-something.

If that would be a goer, how many crew members would there be in MH J on their A330 and CI PE on A350 (both SE Asia regional flights, 4-5 h flight times)?

Finally getting some time and energy to post.
Currently in Liverpool and saw the first Eurovision concert. Having caught up with the other threads- I will not use the word ‘amazing’ lest it becomes weaponised
So…..
I love SQ - as everyone is aware
On both sectors Sat/Sun SQ208/302 on weekend I decided to write a card from the heart to the crew thanking them for the wonderful time I had as their guest and my 25+ years of flying with them.
They were overjoyed.
2nd sector the Cabin Manager was actually crying saying how much the crew appreciate the acknowledgement. The depth of emotional response actually took me by surprise.
I have reflected back on this thread and my earlier comments. I have always been a ‘pay it forward’ type of person, regularly provide feedback re:services (good and - constructively - bad).
This is really no different.
If it was not genuine gratitude I would have left the cards in my bag.
So whilst I do not do gifts - I fully understand the sentiment of why people do. Its the means of expressing gratitude that differs but the human connection is the same.

@tdimdad, individual gifts (or those able to be split up) are definitely easier. That’s why I buy the Ferrero Rocher 5 packs.



For domestic flights, it generally means 2 for the CM and 1 for each of the FA’s. I would think similar number of crew on the airlines and planes you mentioned. When in doubt, buy a larger box.


For me, on average $4 per flight is something that only scratches the surface. But it shows them that I appreciate them and the work they do.

Bring some TimTams for your Euro flights - they're a real treat in Northern Europe. Much coveted. I'm bringing a dozen packages for my trip to Norway later this year. Most for family, but a couple for the Finnair staff

No, I’m personally gifting the chocolates, so I’m not trying to push the envelope.

A couple of hundred $ over the year doesn’t matter to me. Watching the FA’s in particular be surprised by the simple act of a gift is value enough.
