Just an update for everyone, the AFF team is currently 1715 out of 8327 teams. Soldier on people!

Great work everyone, with a team total of ~1.21million steps to date and its only day 18 out of 125.

For those wondering what Global Corporate Challenge 2009 is, its all detailed in their website www.gcc2009.com ; but simply is a 125 day well-being program to promote everyday people to be more active in life, and in turn, have a better lifestyle.

The AFF team consists of anat0l, Flashware, Masonic Phantom, PaulC83, turtlemichael, straitman and me (alanslegal).

We're called the AFF Mileage Runners so keep a look out ;)

A quick way to get some 'steps' is to go to the gym and do a Spin class, if your gym offers it.

GCC allows 8,800 steps for just the one class - and if you do it to your maximum, you can easily burn 550-700calories in the one class. Now thats called good energy burn!

That reminds me... I missed spin class tonight so I could work back late

I have just entered my totals for yesterday. We are now positioned 1837 in the rankings, although this is a moving number as people post their steps.

I've been in and out of hospital the past few days, so my step counts are a little all over the place....

*sigh*

I normally try to aim for 12,000 steps per day at least, especially on non-work days.

Now that I'm back into a period of working from around 9.30am - 8.00pm at uni, I'm struggling to maintain 10,000 steps per day (8,000 is my non-negotiable lower limit unless I'm hit by a bus).

Coupling this with a lack of adequate sleep...... :(

I'm currently walking around the US (not all of it, just bits) and having trouble keeping my average up to the mark. There are too many distractions here uinlike when doing an hour or so morning and evening on the Cairns Esplanade.

But, good news. An email this morning from GCC 2009 saying I have been randomly selected as the winner of a gift voucher usable at Athletes Foot for a pair of ASICs walking shoes to the value of $180.00. Unlike my usual wins of $4 million+ from Africa, I think this one is genuine. :)

Congratulations! Where's mine :(

Congratulations Michael. :D

Got an email today that the AFF GCC 2009 team has surpassed 5 million steps.

As of the time of this post, our collective step count stands at 5,119,279 steps. We've collectively walked 3,276* km and offset 123 kg of carbon. Just for a point of reference, the approximate amount of carbon for one passenger flying SYD-MEL one-way on QF is 107 kg (using the QF carbon offset calculator).

Well done, GCC team! Keep on going and logging your steps. I'm assuming everyone got a certificate in their email boxes saying that we hit this milestone. If not and you would like one, please PM me.

* Assumes an approximate rate of 10,000 steps = 7 km, or an average stride size of 0.7 m

When a few people post their missing steps the total will probably be closer to 6 million. A few extra step entries (me incl ) has raised the total to 5.5 million already.

Well done Team - its great to see everyone doing their little bit but more importantly hopefully everyone is improving their behaviour and making choices for a healthier lifestyle.

From the past few weeks I notice that my weekend step count drops 30-35% from my weekday counts. The logic is that on weekends I spend too much time @ home and likely in front of the TV watching Foxtel ... but I've been trying to encourage myself to go outdoors and get some fresh air instead. I know there are only positives that will result if I did this.
