Global Corporate Challenge 2009

It's a pity I missed this, because I walk my 2 dogs in the morning, around 4-5 kms in total + my normal daily walking. Damn, could have really helped the team.

anat0l, remind me for next year will you ;)

I had to start walking anyway before I knew about the GCC because I started a plan to lose weight (which has been successful so far - and keeping it off). Walking was a big key and still is to my keeping the weight-gain at bay.

Not only that, but having to rely on public transport and commuting around a fairly large uni campus means that walking lots is a given anyway.

You have Alanslegal to thank for bringing the idea to AFF this year. Next year it would be nice to see this grow - perhaps we can have two AFF teams.

There's only 3 weeks to go in the GCC 2009!

Surge forward, AFFers!

Paging PaulC83, if you can hear this, please enter your steps immediately, as your team could very much use your help!

The italicised locations are transport hubs. In this case, travel between the hub and the next destination is not counted in the step count (if I interpreted this correctly).

Some other stats about the AFF Mileage Runners team:
  • We are within the top 2000 teams (in the world)
  • We averaged 11,296 steps per day per person which according to the GCC's algorithm is more than 7km per day. For reference, the Australian teams average is 8,872 steps per day per person; the global average for the 2009 competition is 9,017 steps per day per person.
  • We collectively walked 9,884,617 steps and a distance of 6,326 km (which is about a SYD-SIN one-way flight by GCM distance)
  • We've offset about 237kg of carbon dioxide
  • And just for laughs, we've collectively burnt off the apparent equivalent of one of the following sets of food
    • just under 2,500 glasses of wine
    • just under 3,000 mugs of beer
    • just over 800 burgers
    • just about 1,100 75g chocolate bars
    • close to 2,400 cans of soft drink
    • just over 1,600 slices of pizza (unit weight 323g)
    • about 950 bowls of spaghetti
    • a bit over 1,000 beef steaks (uni weight 200g)
    • a little under 1,000 medium serves of French fries
    • a bit under 1,600 slices of cake

Hope to see some of the participants this year and perhaps even more members from AFF do this next year for a good cause both for the participants and for health research.

A big thanks to Alanslegal for bringing up the idea on AFF.

I think I have put back on the equivalent of all of these during my current trip.

I guess the positive is to think how I would be if I had not participated.
