New Qantas Regional Lounge For Gladstone 08 February 2011
QantasLink today announced plans to open a new Qantas Regional Lounge at Gladstone Airport.
QantasLink Executive Manager, Mr Narendra Kumar, said the new premium lounge would add to the regional airline’s growing network of lounges and premium offering.
“Operating across so much of Queensland – 21 destinations, in fact – QantasLink is strongly committed to providing air services to regional communities and investing in new services and infrastructure,” Mr Kumar said.
“Gladstone is an important LNG, resource and tourism centre in Central Queensland. It is an important market for our airline and it will join our select list of ports to have a Regional Lounge.
“This new Qantas Regional Lounge will provide business travellers, in particular, with significantly improved facilities when travelling between Gladstone and Brisbane, Rockhampton, Mackay, Townsville and Cairns.”
The lounge will reflect the same style as Qantas Club lounges across Australia and offer Qantas Club members and Platinum and Gold Frequent Flyers a range of services including:
Work on the new 190 square metre lounge will commence once final approval is received from the airport authority.
Two Qantas Regional Lounges are already available in Queensland – in Mackay and Rockhampton – and a new lounge will open in Emerald in coming months. Regional Lounges are also located in Broome, Coffs Harbour, Devonport, Kalgoorlie, Karratha, Launceston and Port Hedland, and more are planned.
QantasLink commenced services to Gladstone in 1981 and recently celebrated 29 years of operation to the city on 7 December 2010. Today, the airline operates 43 return services per week between Gladstone and Brisbane, and a further nine return services linking Gladstone with Rockhampton, Mackay, Townsville and Cairns. The majority of flights are operated by the jet-like 74-seat Bombardier Q400 aircraft.
QantasLink has invested over $600 million in 21 new Q400 aircraft since 2006 and a further $250 million is being spent on another seven Next Gen Q400 aircraft with delivery of the first aircraft this month. The Q400 fleet operate alongside the airline’s fleet of five Q200, 16 Q300 and 11 B717 aircraft which operate around 2000 flights each week to 54 metropolitan and regional destinations throughout Australia, as well as Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea.
