Go for Qantas flights or other cheaper airlines?

Load of cough.

Tetchy, tetchy! Other people are entitled to their opinion - I am willing to listen to all sound, reasonable comments reflecting peoples experiences and take them on face value: if they end up being different from what I eventually experience, then so be it. But for someone to denigrate the experiences and opinions of others in such a way as you did is demeaning to them and shows rudness on your part, placing in question your own integrity and veracity.

What do you base that statement on? Maybe Etihad?
Personal experience with Emirates and reviews from people I know about Etihad. I know it is always best to try out a product first before judging it but on this occasion I will go with the reviews.

Certainly the newer version of the EK ICE product (IFE) leaves "on Q" for dead, although I think the A380 QF IFE is pretty good as well.
I don't know much about the IFE used on Emirates but a lot of people on AFF have been raving on about how SQ economy IFE was much better than QF economy IFE. I got to experience the SQ economy IFE and the best I can say for it is that I hate it with a passion to the point where I did not even bother using it on the return flight SIN-SYD on the 77W.

BUt I am sick of that attitude you get from QF flight attendants if you dare ask for something outside of their service patterns, and it's all too common for them to be downright rude.
Agree on the attitude issue with Qantas FAs but I do not let them spoil my flight.

Dr Gonzo,

It will depend a lot what other airlines you are interested in flying are but if you're looking at Emirates, Malaysia, or Virgin Atlantic you can earn Velocity (Virgin Blue) FF points on any of those. If it's an ultra cheap fare you may not earn much or any, but you could get a useful amount of points for domestic travel within Australia. On Virgin Atlantic you also earn status credits on Virgin Blue.

It may be a way of acruing a useful amount of points for domestic travel without paying over the odds for a ticket but do check the fare class - a lot of ultra cheap ones may not earn. I know Malaysia are often tricky to extract points from but in my experience Emirates are pretty good.
