To quote the OP "looking for something a little more stylish/modern perhaps with onsite spa. ", so peppers would suit based on the limited requirements posted.

I like Salt because its modern and a short drive over the hill to the town of Kingscliffe which has that old world charm. There is not much on the coast you can walk to, so being isolated is not the downside it might be in other locations, and the Tugun Bypass makes it even closer!

I'll be sticking to Broadbeach....never been to Kingscliffe but want somewhere a little more central to GC. It's only for 2 nights so should be no problem.

If it's the schoolies week, I'd avoid Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach completely.

So, my choices would be:

Hyatt Regency Sanctuary Cove (far enough from Surfers Paradise and I don't think it appeals to children anyway)
Sheraton Mirage (sort of at a safe distance from Surfers Paradise)
Palazzo Versace (same as above)

Hyatt Regency and Sheraton Mirage do not have an on-site spa but they do have an associated day spa nearby. Sheraton Mirage is associated with Golden Door, Hyatt Regency is associated with Champions in Sanctuary Cove village. Both would be within about 3 minute walk from the respective hotel.

I am not sure about Palazzo Versace but there is a spa at Marina Mirage from memory anyway, and Golden Door would be very close too (Sheraton and Palazzo Versace are more or less just across the road from each other).

Hyatt and Sheraton are what I call 'Queensland style'. Not really the ultra-modern style but they are comfortable and pleasant. Palazzo Versace is, well, PV style.

With Hyatt, there is a promotion to earn a free night for every two stays, which I think is better than the current promos running on ICHG or Starwood.

I hate to site pimp but my work just started a whole heap of sales at the moment (lots of stay pays).

The Casino may be tacky at times but it has just gone through a full refurb and is often much cheaper with more facilities than Sofitel (more restaursnts bars etc).

As you head south unfortunately all the high end stuff starts to dissapear. Q1/Circle/Chevron are the best in the Apartment Style properties until the Hilton is finished. But Surfers will be crazy full of teenagers and is not always pretty.

Broadbeach will have some but I would be sticking to hotel style to avoid. Hotel Watermark is not as good as the others unless your taking one of the Club Premier rooms on the top floor but the downside with this hotel. No balconies!
