Central Surfers is a disaster at this time with "Light Rail" construction. Occupancy is well down and rates are all over the place ! The Sheraton is a good choice at this time.
Suggest you ring direct and try to do a deal ! We hear of bargain prices being offered by some properties and stories of only 8-10 rooms occupied in a major hotel. Can't see
it being much better in Sept and October. Remember to avoid school holidays.

Just watch the October v8s weekend.

I will be going early sept. will the light rail works be finished by then?

I stayed at Sheraton Gold Coast a month ago. Now the renovations are done, rooms and public areas are of the standard you would expect.
I prefer the Sheraton in Surfers as it is quieter being out of the main shopping area. It also has very direct beach access, despite the ravages of the sea. If you can get an ocean view or part ocean view room its great. Also rooms are of a good size.
You can catch a bus from the Sheraton to Surfers, but I think if you are staying at Surfers its better to rent a car. Parking at the Sheraton is free.
Most people at the Sheraton choose buffet, but a la carte is available. Currently buffet for all 3 meals is at reduced prices.
Both dinner and breakfast buffet are of a good standard.

Thanks ric for the insight. The wife decides so lets see if it's Sheraton or Hilton SP. By the way is movie world easy to get to from either Sheraton or Hilton?

Well Hilton is in the busier area and more affected by roadworks, gets night noise. You can see I am biased.
Movie World is accessible from both hotels, reasonably easily.
