Gold yanked - thoughts?

The glitch is shiite - I truly understand that the Op should be peeved. But that is Qantas, and pretty much everyone else.

On the other hand, the annoyance is because one did not get what one knew one shouldn't.

All you IT gurus should know how Qantas can prevent what seems to be a common glitch.

Specifically to the OP, yes, feel unhappy, but then decide if you want to waste emotion on fighting - many others have tried and failed.... :)

P.S. that you did not get police called or get banned shows, as per your initial post, some restraint. That is excellent. Asking to be given the gold will just infuriate you more. Best case, IMHO, is that you get lounge credit or similar.
Not really the point tho really. QF have given comps in the past and it’s not our job to be their QA. I do think the OP has been hard done by and lounge credit for this trip is the minimum acceptable outcome.

You get what you pay for and as long as stuff is released without adequate recession testing, glitches are going to creep in.
Regression testing certainly is important and lots of companies could do better at this.

A big problem imo with QF is that there's a lot of things that either don't work properly online or that you can't do online. Their call centres would be a lot less busy if there weren't so many things that you had to call up about to get fixed.

true - except every time I use other airlines sites, I decide Qantas isn’t that bad :)

I actually know of a recent case where the banner appeared and status retained even though the status credits weren’t obtained. A new card for the status was issued with expiry 12 months later. This seems contrary to the no further status comps posts, however did occur without an offer to retain by buying with points. The member did not have sufficient points for an offer.

Similar happened to hubby a couple of years ago. It lasted for 6 months? It got ‘sorted’ when the website did a massive upgrade maybe 3 years ago and he went down to SG after WP. We did get the benefits of one overseas trip on it though using F lounges.

It was quite funny. His EA did not understand what status and its levels was all about. I mentioned to her that instead of dropping back to Gold he was still WP. Somehow she didn’t understand that this was a good thing. So she took it on her own bat to call Qantas and said he shouldn’t be Platinum but Gold :eek: Thankfully the operator didn’t do anything. I said to her after she told me to let me do his bookings in future.

Interesting data point, but not quite what was meant I think ( Pushka may correct me). The OP had a new 'retain' banner posted and then withdrawn, as opposed to what frequently happens when old status is left up for a week or so and then taken off.

But very interesting to hear of a complete 'comp'. Do you know anything about the circumstances? Any particular relationship to Qantad, former Chairman's lounge etc?

The "Congratulations" banner seems to be relatively new - at least since some time last year.

This changed from just having old status left to to include this "Congratulations" banner perhaps sometime last year. Certainly there's mention of such a banner last October.

As will the old status hanging around, this banner is coming up for a few days relative to status at the end of the previous month for the member's new "year" whether status is retained or not.

Thanks Serfty. So it seems Qantas has found a away to 'enhance' the previous erroneous status lag. Not just a lag now, but an added fanfare to precede the let-down. :rolleyes:

Although it didn't happen to me at the end of February this year when I went down from Plat to SG for a while. Consistently inconsistent.

Yeah..I knew I hadnt requalified but that certainly gave me false hope of a comp. And I knew there was ususally a lag, but I wasnt aware of the false congratulations.

Indeed. It was a bit of a marker or symptom of not connecting dots.

To my mind the major issue is that QFIT break what isn't broken.

Case in point: by my calculations I've received (I won't use "earn" because QF obviously have a different definition) 1245 SCs this year - my membership year expires on August 31. The headline banner also confirms this banner and seems to be recognized by QF's system because its gone from providing me with the number of SCs I need to retain Platinum to now telling me the number of SCs I need to acquire P1.

However, the system also tells me that this Membership Year:

1. I've earned 1,145 SCs toward attaining P1
2. I've earned 1,070 SCs on eligible QF and JQ flights toward the Loyalty Bonus

Now I know - through this forum - that the DSC doesn't earn toward the Loyalty Bonus but I can't for the life of me figure out the 100 SC difference between the earn figure to retain P and the earn for P1. Do Loyalty Bonuses count for Gold and Platinum earn/retention but not P1? Confusing enough for an experienced campaigner, how on earth do QFF think this is easily understood by their "average frequent flyer"?

So, despite the system telling me I've exceeded the threshold for WP retention, there's a nagging doubt with my end of membership year looming. I'm convinced the system used to provide a virtual Membership Card and that the expiry date on this used to update automatically once you'd retained status. Did I dream this or is this something else that QFIT have enhanced away?

I had the retain banner late yesterday but it has gone now. It does say platinum at the top left of my account page, but seems to be suggesting I am now gold. Apparently my next goal is to retain gold.

It is all very disappointing, I’ll be the first.......OK maybe not the first, to admit I didn’t credit quite as many flights to QF as I have in previous years but nevertheless it puts me off earning SC’s with QF........well that and the quite awful simpler and fairer SC earn.

That's correct. It's stated in the T&Cs. So if you have LTG and P1 is realistic there's no point taking your loyalty bonuses as SCs unless you believe QF is likely to introduce a LTP. For retaining WP as you have done (and/or progressing towards LTG) taking the SCs makes a lot of sense.

For retaining WP as you have done (and/or progressing towards LTG) taking the SCs makes a lot of sense.

I'd just qualify that to "taking the SCs at their most productive timing..." as I've now - supposedly - clicked over to retained WP, I'm delaying my 1000 SC Loyalty Bonus to the new membership year.

So I can confirm,Mrs Nick who should have dropped down to Silver did not receive the banner add today. She is still showing up as Gold but at least not being confirmed for the next 12 months and we all know status will adjust in the next few days

And even though Mrs Nick still displays as Gold, I notice Award flight availability has already dropped right off so it appears in the background she is already PS

Slightly OT, but out of interest were you given an offer to pony up 120K points to keep WP prior to the requal date?
