Goodbye to the ZX 767s

Went on ZXA in December it was scheduled as A333, what a relief "I HATE NO AIR VENTS"

Good riddance. Like others I hate the lack of individual air vents.

I know it sounds lame, but I'm going to miss the old birds, as a former monorail commuter they really were part of the whole experience.
In QF Fleet bingo terms, They were always the common ones I ended up on.

For those in the know even though they didnt have painted names, they were named right? or was one or two never named? I can never remember which was which.

I love the mini cabin, 24A was my favourite domestic Y seat.
Is that 'mini cabin' available on other 767s or is it only on the ZX aircraft that are being retired? If the latter I'll be quite disappointed.

I did like the mini cabin, but hated no air vents..

And yes they were named:

VH-ZXA - Jervis Bay
VH-ZXB - Bourke
VH-ZXC - Stanwell
VH-ZXD - Port Campbell
VH-ZXE - Mornington
VH-ZXF - Devonport
VH-ZXG - Karratha

No seat could beat 24F on the International Configured 763's. Of course that does not relate to ZX's ...

So I can see I'm going to be the odd one out here,
I liked the ZX's... Didn't fly on them often, but when I did I liked them...

Yes I found the "no air vent's" a little strange, but for some reason I still liked them, prob because their door config meant they didn't just feel like an extra large 737...

Lol ... Directional air vents.

Will miss the mini cabin big time. Also, I understand these RR powered birds were a favorite amongst pilots and also quicker.

Believe me, the gloss wears off after your 100th or so flight in one between Mel and SYD

a little off topic, but does anyone else find it strange that we fly our old birds to the other side of the world, just so they can sit in the desert? Don't we already have a desert in this country?

There is talk of a graveyard opening in Alice Springs.

Any updates on this project?

Shame it wasnt ready in time for all the QF retirements (734s, 763s, 744s)....

Cannot see it being viable, the reason for a graveyard is to in general store aircraft while they are parted out, given our location is not the best in terms of demand for the parts across the globe, its cheaper to send those parts closer to the customer as one flying bird then separate.

No demand from South East Asia?

Surprised the empty 763 can't make it to lax. Although from hnl I guess it can go straight to the desert (assuming that's where it's going).
