Is anyone else on AFF looking at potentially pre-ordering, or otherwise acquiring, one of the new google devices? I've been on board the google bus since my nexus 6P and am considering what the best bonus offer / cashback / trade-in option will be.

At the moment it's looking like getting a Pixel 7 Pro (probably 512gb, which seems to only come in obsidian) pre-ordered from google which comes with $300 store credit, 10% cashback via google one, and an additional 10% discount voucher that google sent me (a 10% student discount code has also been discussed on ozbargain but I don't expect them to stack).

As I am planning on buying some google devices in the future anyway (either a watch or a doorbell) it seems like the best option. While telstra's hardware bundle is valued at $447, I don't particularly need the earbuds or charging stand, nor the chromecast from JB's bundle valued at $223. There's been some discussion of a $300 trade in credit at JB, but this seems to be only valid after the pre-order bonus has ended.

On the Pixel Watch - I'm feeling keen but with two thoughts; the first being there doesn't seem to be any incentive to pre-order so I might wait for black friday offers. Secondly, would be keen for some reviews around battery life.

Edit: the third being the pixel watch 4G is not supported by optus, with only telstra on the current support listing.

Definitely an inprovement over the Pixel 6. Not too sure about the watch, effectively first gen but yeah keen to see user reviews

I'm basically in the same boat as you @exceladdict. I'm Google everything and keen on the 7 Pro and Pixel watch given the apps will be much better than my Galaxy watch. I'll probably order from the Google store and go for the non-LTE watch given I'm currently with Optus. The Telstra inducements don't do much for me.

Off topic but the main thing stopping me from returning to Telstra is they don't seem to have plans with international calls included.

If you can buy the phone and the watch directly - I would suggest at looking at Boost Mobile. Prepaid but has access to the full Telstra Network + pretty much unlimited calls to many destinations. I use it all the time to call France and Europe.

The cons are - no roaming yet + no connected devices.
Their 300$/year sim card can often be had for $220/240.

I've messaged optus on facebook messenger and also through their app, as similarly I want to stay on my $49 optus plan that includes roaming. Will probably buy the LTE watch in the hope it's supported in the future.

I bit the bullet and pre-ordered the non-LTE version. The specs are not impressive but I value the native Android compatibility such as Google Pay , Maps, YT Music etc. I expect to upgrade to the new one in 12 months.

LTE is a nice to have but I've been living without it. Another 12 months won't kill me.

So the JB offer has been sweetened with both a trade in offer and extra $100 gift card, so I'm leaning in that direction.

$300 credit for trading in an old phone (I'll use my pixel 3) + ~10% off via woolworths gift cards + $100 JB gift card + Nest Hub + chromecast (though I don't really need it).

Plus, local retailer etc etc and don't have to wait for the phone to be shipped. Thinking of the 7 pro obsidian 512gb.

Experience with the pixel 7 pro has been good so far. Battery another world compared to my previous pixel 3. Ended up going with JB, had some trouble getting the gift card but it came in the end.

@QF029 how are you finding the watch?

I got the Pixel 7 Pro. Previously I'd had the 5, 3XL and 1XL. It's nice having the bigger screen but it's harder than the 5 to operate with one hand.

I'm enjoying the watch. Previously I had a Galaxy watch which would go 2-3 days without a charge whereas I charge the PW every night.

I love having the heart rate, google wallet, you tube music etc on the watch.

If the 2nd gen is a big step forward I'll probably go for that.
