Government Rates?

I assume working in a public hospital counts? My tag doesnt have the hospital name but does have "xx_ Health" on it.

Huh, I'd never thought of that. I always assumed it was for federal gov employees only.

Do you guys use the various codes out there to book e.g. PRxx_xx_ or just tick Gov ?

I must admit to never knowing any codes so I've never checked. PM me the code Flashback, and I'll check the difference in rates for you ;)

State govt is fine for Govt rates here, and Europe. The only exclusions appear to be the specific rates that you see on some US properties.

Aye! I've clarified with some IHG properties in the US, some are willing to honour the government rate and some not

I think that should be fine.... Update, I have now been asked twice at HSP and just flashed the Government ID which they were fine with :)

Yes, I have also been asked to show the ID, at HSW though, once only.

No codes, just tick Govt. Sometimes the UK/ Europe properties only work with the PRxx_x codes.

I do have valid govt ID. Only asked for it a couple of times in the past 4 years.

Employment with local government worked for me whilst I worked for city of melbourne a few years ago. I regularly book using the government rate and never been asked for ID but I do carry business cards, use my work email addy and have photo ID with government logo.:)

I emailed to find out if working in a public hospital was eligible. Their very helpful answer said to access the rate I needed government ID. Hospital ID is issued by the hospital obviously, not the government, so I'm still none the wiser. I wonder if teaching in public schools counts too, I have teaching registration iD.

When I rang HTOP I was told that a University I D (not student) card does not count as Govt. Lucky I have another Federal Govt I D.

Yes to teaching (state not private). I think if it's work ID with a gov't logo on it you will be fine. If there is no gov't logo it may be problematic.

So, do they think that the public hospital may not be run by the government?

I can think of a couple of examples where a public hospital is funded by the government but not run by the government.

I contract to a large number of government departments (so have ID cards for a few). I've never really thought about using the govt rate. Typically my corporate deals are pretty good, but could be worth considering where we don't have an arrangement with a particular chain.

How large is the discount usually?

It depends on the hotel but is usually at or around the AAA rate and fully flexible.

The biggest advantage is there is no need to pay until the stay. So I can book expecting to stay, but no penalty if cancelled.
