Grammar Discussions

A quick grammar/spelling lesson:

lose - to misplace "I don't want to lose my boarding pass"
loose - not tight "My seat belt is loose"

sort - to place in order "I sort my past flights by carrier"
sought - past tense of seek "Seat 1A was often sought after"
Happens all the time

their/there/they're
of/off

I've even see here/hear which I reckon is pretty bad.

Re: The totally off-topic thread

I'll tell you all one I always get wrong is affect/effect. For everything I remember about grammar, I can just never remember which is the noun and which the verb. Even if I know there is a difference.

Similarly, with sweat/sweet. I know the difference, but I can never remember which is which. Lack of Phonics capability. I blame Sir Joh, the mad peanut farmer from Kingaroy.

The worst of all seems to be your/you're.

I received this in an email today from a psychiatrist: 'Mate, your welcome'

It really is my pet hate; up there with there/their.

Affect and effect annoys me too but it is not used frequently like the others!

My weak point is apostrophes but i am getting better as SWMBO is a teacher!

There is also problems with an electronic [-]comma[/-] communications these days due to autocorrect.

Case in point autocorrect bit me there/their/they're.
