'Grumpy' Old Boomer

Well it is in Surry Hills! And an excellent area for food at all price points (but I do take your point with Nomads)
Yes, absolutely! There’s a few favourites in that area. We popped down to Chin Chin recently for my leisurely weekday birthday lunch (neither of us are working 😁).

SYD+1 is the proud owner of a Gold Opal card, so for the other dinner we caught the train in for pre dinner drinks at the Wilmont Bar (Kimpton Margot - nice!) and then a short bus ride home after dinner… Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves (secret to early retirement and J travel).

With that, could have drinks at the Carrington Hotel Katoomba 😁.
Funny thing that card (eligible to all NSW's at 60) gives some reciprocal seniors transport fare in qld (where eligibility for local qld senior is 65). Hilarious.

VIC has a seniors Myki card that somewhat embarrassingly beeps twice - just to let everyone know a grumpy old so and so has boarded the tram…

Edit: that should have been “concession” but I imagine the “seniors” card beeps twice also….

so does the Brisbane go card - I thought it was because it was an error but it's because I'm old

Not a problem for interstate non-concession seniors, unlike other states, VIC
doesn’t offer us a reduction in public transport costs.

And for Interstaters from 65. The pineapples have such cards, saving a cool $1.50 or so from the toxic fare from the airport:cool:

Que? The pineapples both have concession Myki cards because we're seniors.

There's a guide to the interstate boomers' ability to rort the public transport system, something which gives me great pleasure.

The VIC Myki “concession” card ($5) provides half price fares and available to NSW (and other state concession card holders). In NSW you just need to be 60 or over. There is a pesky work test. The irony is those who can’t afford to retire can’t get the concession card!

The VIC “Seniors” card is free for 65+ (but might only be for VIC residents?).

You're right. Vic seniors get 50% off and a few other things on a seniors Myki. Interstate seniors get a general concession myki which gets you 50% off. there may be a difference, but it's an obscure one.

Not quite so , as an interstate senior you need to have a centrelink concession card , health card or fall into certain categories to obtain a Concession Myki. I’m not aware of any work around.

My SA seniors card was enough to get me a concession Myki

Maybe the rules have changed ?
From the Myki website:

Interstate Seniors Card holders

Looks like my SA Seniors card says No 😉
