In places where multiple OW lounges operate, is it possible to guest different members in different lounges?

Eg -
Guest no. 1 in QF lounge.
Guest no. 2 in OW lounge 1
Guest no. 3 in OW lounge 2

We’ll be travelling with parents via HKG, where there happen to be multiple CX lounges in addition to the QF lounge. Of course we’d be separated if we could do the above.

Cheers!

It might be possible to [physically] do it, but it would be considered a breach of the rules, which could lead to termination of your membership and forfeiting any points or status you have.

Not in the spirit of the guesting rules.
Would need to *carefully* check the guesting rules for OR and non QF / OW partner lounges depending on the basis for guesting.

In reality though I think the worst you'd get is a telling off.

I went on a lounge crawl through Hong Kong last month, taking the same guest to all 3 open lounges.

I found that at the first lounge they scanned both my BP and my guest's BP with their handheld device, but at the subsequent two lounges they only scanned mine, plus sighted the name on my guest's BP only. I assume this means their system already showed them the name of the person I guested before, so they would know if I took someone else in.

Either that or the other two lounges were just slack about scanning guest's BPs.

Why would going from one lounge to another (as a solo traveler, or with same guest) be in the spirit of the rules, but bringing a different guest not?

To me, if we are allowed to go to multiple lounges, and we obey to the access rules each time, I can't see a breach of rules.

Lounge hopping is fine.

Taking more than the permitted number of guests is at best a breach of the rules, and at worst could open up to other sanctions.

Lounge hopping = member and one guest the food and beverage for 2 pax. Guesting into three separate lounges = food and beverage for 4 pax.

you’re allowed 1 guest, but you’re trying to scam the system to take in 3.

Of course if the lounge reception is made aware of this by the passenger and agrees, not a problem :)

How rigorous are the lounge keepers with children? Technically, a status holder is entitled to one guest when travelling on a JQ flight number, but do they enforce that guest and count children in the overall allotment? The rules suggest they do but I wonder if it is enforced in practice or is it just a case of YMMV.

I think the risks are minimal and the suggestion of ‘sanctions’ is a bit over the top.

More pertinent I would have thought, is what is the fun in you all sitting by yourselves in separate lounges?

How about trying to rustle up two passes for the Qantas lounge?

I’ve guested different passengers in different *A lounges before (SQ v. BR). No issues then.

Guesting in different lounges by the same airline is a slightly different story.

Have read the rules. Never said it’s gotta be the SAME guest.

Putting aside the CX example in HKG, I imagine the same scenario would apply to those with QFF Platinum and above statuses where Qantas operates more than one lounge? Say QC and Qantas Domestic Business. Since I don’t hold such status, I guess I am prevented from ever trying to “scam” that system. Don’t worry.

Calling it a scam is probably over the top. Might as well be the lounge reception if you care that much. Lol.

Indeed. No fun by yourself!
But I’d argue it’s much easier to have fun by yourself in any of the HKG lounges, than MEL or SYD’s QF J lounges. Heck, you might have more fun by yourself here since you’d actually find a seat. 😂

It doesn't but there's usually verbiage about you having to accompany your guest. If you then leave the lounge but leave your guest in the lounge, is that allowed? There's plausible deniability because it doesn't explicitly state you must accompany them the whole time, but my interpretation is you're not supposed to leave your guest in the lounge and depart.

e.g. in the Qantas Club T&Cs: "Guests in international Qantas Club lounges must be accompanied by the Member"
and the lounge entry T&Cs: "1.2 Eligible guests can access the lounge once only and must be accompanied by the eligible customer."

I have one second hand anecdote from a friend who was guested by their father into the Sydney FLounge where their flight left 4 hours after their father's flight, and was informed at entry by the lounge desk that they are to leave the lounge when their father leaves for his flight. He didn't end up leaving and stayed in the lounge for a further 4 hours, and nobody said anything.

I haven’t interpreted that sentence in such a way before. But can see it being used that way.

Although I’ve definitely “parked” my accompanying/flying on the same flight guest in the lounge first, before venturing out to sort out TRS and other businesses. Seems reasonable and non-“scammy” in my book.

Yeah, I've done it too, usually guesting in someone travelling on a later flight than myself. Never been stopped myself but as mentioned above I have one second-hand anecdote about the lounge reception noting that the guest should leave at the same time.

Are airlines IT systems good enough to pickup guesting of different guests into lounges of different airlines on the same day?

I get the theory, although with HKG if you go with separate carriers - just 2 different airlines operating lounges (plus on certain carriers might get an invite to contract lounge). But at SIN, a QF WP or SG flying on say QF 36 to MEL, could in theory guest someone into QR, EK, BA and QF lounges ....

No, I can't imagine info about your guest's identity is shared between airlines for the purposes of billing for lounge usage. I do wonder whether airlines are billed more depending on if you take 0 or 1 guests though.

That must’ve been one super on-the-ball reception to have recalled that this person came with a guest, and left without one 😮 or perhaps the person was just very memorable (or unlikable lol)

It was a reminder when entering the lounge when they noticed the guest's flight left 4h after the member's flight.

Yes it's possible to do this and I've done something similar before.

In practical terms, the lounges are not exactly next to each other so going from one to the other will take a fair amount of time plus as previously mentioned being left all alone in a lounge may not be that much fun.
