Hi All,

A question from the lesser travelled Mrs BD (I have no need for such items ... !!) is there any sort of restriction on hairspray in hand luggage on domestic flights? Is it considered flammable and banned or does it fall within the general "if you can carry it, its allowed" liquid and gels category?

Regards,

BD

Not sure about Virgin but this is Qantas but I remember (back in those days when I travelled) you had to take out your aerosols at scanning

My Mrs had no issues with a 50 ml travel hairspray (unpacked from bag and presented for inspection) last week in MEL. Didn't check if there was a volume restriction, though.

Thanks pickering19292 !!

All aerosols out of bags and into the tray to be inspected at domestic security. (So make sure to pack them at the top of the bag for easy access.)

Limit is personal use. (Which in reality could be quite a few, if traveling HLO). They can add up ; hairspray, deodorant, sunscreen, skin bronzer, puffer, spritzer...) No size limit, so her 400g big cans are fine (if she buys hairspray in big value sizes), there is no need to go out and buy especially small (international travel size) ones.

Oh, and make sure they have a cap (or have a switch or slide to make them inoperable)... lose your cap (or can't turn them off) and they won't get through security.

Thanks dk4 - this was my real concern. Mrs BD has a "baton size can" (robs all the oxygen out of the bathroom!!) and I was concerned it would be deemed a severe fire hazard, if not an offensive weapon !!

BD

Veteran hairspray user here. It’s far simpler to buy at your destination. Almost all of the good ones don’t have minis which meet the requirements

OP was asking about domestic, so the full size is fine.
