Has anyone booked to fly in December?

Fiji on 31 December. Booked in late July using Amex credits, and tickets home being booked shortly using Virgin credit. No issue doing a week at home on return if we have to, MrsMac will probably not want to do two though. We live in Vic but have family in NSW so the state we fly back to will be the one with the least onerous conditions - bearing in mind the potential interstate regulations. Fingers crossed we can all go where we would like to by then.

I've booked Fiji coral coast with the family for a week in early-mid Jan. I'm in NSW and the expectation is for home quarantine of up to 7 days on our return... but hopeful that if we are over a month into being 90%+ fully vaxxed in NSW by then, that it might be even simpler than this; e.g. test on arrival, quarantine until negative result.

The thing I'm now wondering, was if it's home quarantine after arrival, does that mean we wouldn't be able to drive to the airport (outbound) and home after returning? We definitely don't pack light - this family - and generally I find it's easier to park and fly. I have a feeling with home quarantine they wouldn't allow this, or there's work to be done on how it could be allowed.

Cheers,
Matt.

No knowledge but that would sound like the safest option for home quarantine

Yes, I think that's right. I was kind of lost on how they know you actually went home to where you should, but they will have the tracking app and stuff running by then, so even if you were 'on route', you could likely show you are headed in the right direction. Also just found this page on returned travellers who have an exemption for hotel quarantine, and it speaks to the same.

Travel requirements

You will need to travel safely to the place where you will undertake your self-isolation, as well as to access your Day 7 and Day 12 COVID-19 tests. You must travel to your destination by the most direct route and follow the conditions listed on your exemption instrument in relation to travel. Travel options may include:
  • Private car. You may only travel with other people who are isolating with you.
  • In a hire car with a professional driver (not a family member or friend)
  • Taxi or ride-share is not permitted.
  • Public transport is not permitted.

I'm waiting to hear if that will apply to all countries or only certain low risk ones.

Quite likely that the UK will be included - but will have to see about US. Ideally I'd like to fly to the UK and come back through the US - but if it means HQ, I'll just stay in the UK. I wonder if it will get to the point where we designate specific states like NZ was doing for us?
I think the US will be included. At least the highly vaccinated states.
Otherwise I can’t see why QF are scheduling flights to LAX from Dec.

I booked the day after the announcement, off to London with Qantas on Dec 8th! Feels very good to have that locked in and found a reasonable return fare. Decided to stay away for 7 weeks and will work out a trip or two from London. I kept the booking simple to reduce risk of many changes. Qantas have already changed my return flight which was via Perth, now via Darwin. Bring it on!!
