Am I correct in thinking Qantas' price promise has been 'enhanced'? I can't seem to find any mention of it on the website and Google returns nothing of substance.

I would not be surprised given the need to preserve every penny coming their way, but just thought I'd double check in case I've missed something obvious.

It does appear to be gone indeed. Pretty much all links and references have been removed from the Qantas website.

Not sure their “promise” was worth very much. Indeed it’s likely that the staff that were reviewing these are longer employed, hence the removal.

I benefitted from it a considerable number of times, so am sad to see it go, but completely understand why.

I asked Qantas about this. They've now confirmed that it's suspended because the staff that normally look after Price Promise are stood down. It might be back at some point.

As suspected. Thanks for checking

It does make you wonder though..staff are stood down when they can’t be usefully employed. The staff that are responsible for the price promise would still have been usefully employed as there are clearly people who would be using the service.

Taking an opportunity to cut services/products is quite different..

There may be no reference to it on the website. But if you go to book a flight it is still listed even now as a benefit for booking with Qantas.

The new price promise looks to be a lot stricter, perhaps to the point of being impossible to obtain depending on how they apply the criteria.

Has to have, eg, identical customer service:
  • Bookings without like-for-like product inclusions, including free features available on all Qantas bookings such as domestic standard seat selection, 24/7 phone support , standard baggage entitlements, free date changes through Fly Flex program etc. (see Product Table)

Given the article @Mattg published Special Qantas Flights UK Uncompetitive QF have given themselves a get out of jail free card. using your example e.g. "identical customer service" most of the other tier 1 airlines flying to the UK are offering better service. So QF has reduced service and not identical at twice the cost no need to honour the price promise ;) Just saying.

Identical customer service?! 😆

Honestly, if the competitor website genuinely offered 24/7 phone support, Qantas could argue that the competitor has superior customer service, and therefore doesn't qualify for the Price Promise.

I agree - the new Price Promise is next to useless.

But the Price Promi$e is on a flight booked on qantas.com and the same QF flight bookable on a licensed online travel agent's website?

So they are price matching against themself hardly makes sense given some of the discussions I have had with AMEX when trying to use vouchers AMEX have stated QF does not release all fare buckets to TAs. Anyhow that aside I suspect QF will be using Covid as an excuse for years to come for their lack of service, long call wait times etc. I am more than happy to pay the points penalty or reduced SC to fly with other OW carriers or partner airlines and this is not that different to my pre covid mind set.

Does Price Promi$e mean that I can claim the QF website listed PER-BME $258 or $303 against the QF only choice available when booking with a credit voucher of $347?

Oh- 10, 15 years long minimum for sure :p

Problem is that the easy "Covid excuse" is ripe in many industries and will continue to be, Qantas is certainly not the only one. Only if it is convenient, of course. I suspect it to become a bit like the "Save the polar bear excuse" which strangely seems to always be utilized if a few bucks can be saved at the same time...

I used to regularly use the Qantas Price Promise and saved 100s of dollars from it. Recently I tried it again due to the enhancements and it is impossible to be successfully claim.

This would have been accepted before the enhancements because My Trip owned by Gotogate Pty Ltd.

Unfortunately, your claim was unsuccessful
We’ve had a look at the details you submitted and found that your claim doesn't meet our Price Promise criteria for the following reason:

The website does not provide like-for-like inclusions in their fares, including flexible change and cancellation policies for no charge.
