Has the new temporary SYD T1 F QP opened yet?

I am in the interim F QP right now... Not bad at all for an interim lounge.

I actually prefer the view from here more. I am looking right out towards the belly of a 744 which would be no more than 20-30 metres away!

Just wait until they give an engine a test run at the gate like they did for QF49 last thursday night.

OT: Yeah, SYD-LHR-DXB in D class will do wonders for one's SC count.. Note there's PER-CNS-MEL in D in that total as well as all my other "normal" travel in discount Y. Today I did DXB-LHR and am about to embark on LHR-LAX, both in D.

I've only just realised that this is the old J lounge downstairs and not the old F lounge on the departures level.

Funny, I just assumed they would use the old F lounge. Of course there's no reason why they should! I guess departures level real estate is more precious than downstairs space, and it has clearly been refurbished since it was a J lounge.

Did you (or anyone else passing through) notice what is in the old F lounge space? If I recall correctly it had fairly good views, unlike the downstairs lounge.

Outside is Gate 31. Earlier there was an Air Pacific 747 being turned around.

All in all quite comfortable. It's a bit larger than the one just relocated from. It will be interesting to see where and how large the new one being built is.

It's now 6 hours since first came here, I have another two to go. If any have any questions, feel free to post.

The Air Pacific bird is one of the ex-ansett bodies. And is the temporary lounge actually the OLD QF lounge before it went upstairs so to speak, last time I checked it was a priority pass lounge but these seem to only be located in C now???

Could not tell; the old entrance foyer has been split into two by a new wall, using what were previously the "exit" only sliding doors now for both entry & exit.

These doors are on the right of where one used to enter both the old J and F lounges. This wall has been built between these entry and exit doors with the old F lounge entry and the old desk to the left of this wall. A new desk has been placed on an angle to the right of this wall, just at the top of the escalators for staff to check admission.

The old entry doors have a gate lounge seat placed in front of them. Looking through the plate glass you can still see the old F lounge entry door; maybe it used as a VVIP area when the need arises?

Thanks for the follow-up, serfty. Interesting to note that the food servery area is the same as it was when the J lounge was there. Maybe the downstairs space has been unused since.

I was right. They just said ask at transfer desk when you get there
At least it's pretty well sign-posted. I guess they want to make sure their premium pax don't get lost on the way to the pub!
