Has your clothing ever got you into trouble overseas?

*sigh and swoon* People had such style and class back then.

Note the cigarette thingy in the armrests - I was telling a young co-worker about these the other week, she didn't believe me.

I sure remember smoking on planes. And cigar smokers were asked to "refrain".

Ah yes "for the comfort of other passengers please refrain from smoking cigars or pipes"!

I do remember flying MEL/SYD as a UM & being seated in row 6 of a 727 in a non-smoking seat (obviously) however that didn't stop some old bag seated next to me from lighting up a 79 Park Drive cigarette. I don't recall the crew asking her to put it out either.

This guy was wearing this in the Blue Mosque in Istanbul. People had to cover shoulders and knees, and women their hair. Apparently this passed muster.....

I've arrived at this thread somewhat late but can guarantee this wasn't me.

I have had mock derogatory comments passed at me when wearing a Collingwood baseball cap in Universal Studios Hollywood, Queenstown and outside Buckingham Palace. And I didn't even know Lizzie followed the AFL.

I can't recall any clothing incidents overseas affecting me that have rivalled wearing my NSW jersey in Caxton street on Origin night. Especially the few times we have won!

Actually back then airfares were closer to mortgage levels ... less "classy" people hoping to travel simply couldn't afford it.
And now we are much better off as everyone can fly and dress like trash?

Stayed in Bell City the other night. A real eye opener.

I'm pretty sure my Rex Saab flight last week still had cigarette thingys in the armrest, although they had been disabled. The hand basin in the toilet has also been disabled and replaced with an alcohol based hand wash.

Wow I definitely didn't see those, I would have stocked up!
I did get a nice cook book of authentic North Korean meals. None of which look enticing or borderline edible
Hence their weird looks at your T-shirt........they dress for the evening meal, not dress the evening meal! ;)

Stop whining......you're alive to tell the tale aren't you? Caxton Street is not New Orleans buddy.......we don't sing the Blues here!

Now that is "Bringing the magic back into flying".

Well dressed men, impeccable ladies, what finesse, what class.

Best of all, not a bloody thong nor foot on a bulkhead, seat, armrest or tray table to be seen. There's a lot to be said for 60's class over the gutter class we so often have to endure now.

Someone I was travelling with was made to change out of a pair of camouflage shorts before being allowed through customs into Barbados.

I know of someone who had cam tops and bottoms on his trip. It was certainly not the best choice of clothes for a white male in Vietnam.

An interesting story on the "Golden Age" of flying. Given the fatality rate perhaps they were well dressed in case they met their maker.

Reminds me of Spike Milligans mothers advice to "always wear clean underwear in case your run over by a bus and have to go to Hospital"

I watched an program on Foxtel's Biography Channel a few months back called "I was a Jet Set Stewardess" where even in economy you were served a 7 course meal. I think most people on AFF would find it interesting to watch. The real heyday of flying. As one the the former BOAC hostesses said a guy who had an air hostess as a girlfriend back then was comparable to dating a supermodel in the present day.
