Have you ever had a disparity in hotel room booked to room given?

I’m staying in the Sofitel Melbourne tonight. I booked it several weeks ago through the ALL site (I’m an Accor Plus member) and was surprised to see a Red Hot Room rate come up when they weren’t showing as an option when I looked at the A+ website’s RHR section. The rate was not for the standard room, but rather for the corner room, (2 room grades higher level rate), and it was cheaper than the standard room. So I booked it and thought yay, I can check out a different room type at the Sofitel.

Rushed into my room and back out 10mins later and thought to myself, this room looks just the same as the last time I stayed here in a standard room 2 years ago, I’ll have to check it out when I return. I had completely forgotten what kind of room I’d booked, just that it was an upgraded room than I’d previously booked. Upon returning to the room several hours later I confirmed it definitely is a standard room. So I got out my booking email and was about to go down to reception, when I see on the email that the room listed is indeed the standard king room. Huh? I definitely didn’t book the wrong room at the time. I couldn’t believe my luck when I booked it and thought it really odd that it offered a RHR for a more expensive room. So the system has mucked up and inbetween me booking and receiving the email it has booked the standard room. I honestly just saw the confirmation email and filed it away without looking over it.

Nothing I can do about it - there’s zero proof - but I’m wondering if this has ever happened to anyone else?


(Also, what happened to the sleek desks they used to have? They appear to have replaced them with a less useful and inelegant round table shoved against the wall :( )
 
Yes, we have had a need to stay at the Mantra (Accor) Castle Hill, Sydney four times in the last eight weeks and will be back regularly for at least the next three months. Every time I book a king room it registers on their system as a queen know me there now and they asked me to put the fact I have booked a king room in the notes to property section. I also have had no end of trouble with the Accor membership site registering my stays and crediting my qantas account.
 
Sounds like I will need to be far more vigilant from now on and will be taking screenshots of everything when I next book. (How ridiculous!)

Regardless, I think I'll give Sofitel Melbourne a big miss in future. I was particularly interested to read @vievems's reviews in the "How do Accor treat you as an elite guest" thread that the Pullman was preferred over the Sofitel. Many of the things that irked me about Sofitel were also noted in the report. Shame, location wise it's spot on for my needs.

I haven't had a chance to try the Pullman out yet, but I will give an endorsement to the Movenpick. If you haven't tried it I'd definitely give it a go. I know it's the opposite side of town to the Sofitel though, however it's right next to Southern Cross station, so it's simple to get pretty much anywhere and it's great for arriving in the evening by the Skybus. Fantastic pool if you're into swimming.

The last few times I've stayed there (as an ALL Plus Platinum) I've gotten an upgrade to a suite as well, which is always a nice perk.
 
I booked a $40 room on the app last year. I knew it was a mistake rate but if I didn't book it then somebody else would have, so I booked it. The T&C said prepaid but my card wasn't charged.

When I got the confirmation email it said $160.

I didn't take a screenshot and had no way to prove the $40 price. I thought about explaining it to the check in staff but who in their right mind is going to believe a customer claiming that a 2 bedroom apartment in Melbourne CBD should only cost $40.
