Have you ever had problems with the person sitting behind you on a flight.

Here's another misconception. Jeans are tight. Slacks are loose. Why do people wear jeans for comfort? That slacks are associated with wearing them to work?

I agree and disagree. I find denim jeans particularly uncomfortable for travelling. Yet I also have some (Banana Republic) "travel jeans" which are a softer, less stiff fabric, more like Chinos and really very comfortable for travelling, even though they are not loose fitting in any way. Second only to shorts for comfort when travelling (and I don't wear tracksuit pants in public).

Can understand pax in front getting upset if their seat was jostled :(
Nah she was a useless reclining cow, FA threw her out the door roughly over Adaminaby … she died the death all recliners deserve.

We (everyone from her row backwards) were taking turns punching the back of her seat as hard as we could.

Not so much behind me as in front of me. Or more specifically, in front of my GF.

We were sitting in Row 2 of Y travelling HND>SYD earlier this year. In front of us, sat a “gentleman” (for want of the word I would prefer to use) who - as I discovered as the flight progressed - was most likely a P1 who’d found himself in the unfortunate situation whereby he’d either tried - and failed - to obtain 2 x J class upgrades for he and his wife, or had found that one of his 2 J seats was non-operational. Either way, he had left his wife in J and was stuck in the first row of Y (window seat) with a shadow. Flight Crew were doing their best to placate him and ensure he was well looked after, and to be fair, he was being polite enough to them. Unfortunately, that’s where the niceties stopped as he was well-peeved to be stuck in Y. I could appreciate his frustration, but that didn’t entitle him to be thoroughly inconsiderate to pax around him.

As soon as we took off… SLAM!!! Back goes the seat into full recline. No warning, no gentle recline, just bang and down in went, mere millimetres from ensuring my GF needed a rhinoplasty. I vocalised my displeasure, to zero response. Next came the meal service and it took me asking the flight crew before he was “encouraged” to raise his seat to the upright position, which was achieved with what can only be described as contempt towards the temerity of the PAX sitting directly behind. Meal service complete, and we kept receiving nothing but repeated death stares between the seats as old mate couldn’t recline until the trays were collected. As soon as his tray was collected… SLAM!!!! Down came his seat into full recline. Again, the only reason my GF didn’t wear the glass of red wine she was drinking was because she had the fortune to have been holding it at that very moment. Other items on her tray went flying, but no, old mate in front couldn’t see any problem with that.

Well by this stage I was well and truly fed up with his antics and ready to have some stern words, but my GF was adamant that she didn’t want me saying anything or causing a scene. Against my better judgment at the time, I let it go. But the petty side of me made a point of making zero effort to avoid disturbing the bloke in front whenever either of us wanted to get up for the bathroom, virtually daring him to say something.

I mean… sure buddy, your situation sucks. Anyone would be annoyed. But that doesn’t entitle you to take it out on those PAX around you.

Not behind, but my wife regularly takes issue with the person seated next to her. But only when we travel together...

Hence why Y is considered less than desirable with the person in front reclining into your lap, the kid behind kicking your seat and the person alongside giving you grief. Surrounded!

number of people who have no headphones for their phones etc is amazing.
OMG! so true. I had to do this to a pax on QF MEL-CBR on last week. Lady pax and partner/friend/fiance in 4E and 4F. I was in 5F. Halfway thru the flight, lady pax chooses to listen to songs & some videos without her headphones. I was trying to get some sleep (ACK that MEL-CBR ain't that far and I could not have managed a good sleep). I waited for a few mins to see if she will stop ... but she didn't. So I tapped on her shoulder and told that her headphones are not connected .. she said "oh yea, I know ... I ran out of battery on my headphones" .. I didn't say anything ... just looked at her, signalled a thumbs up and went back to closing my eyes. She immediately stopped playing music for the rest of the flight.

If you were in the aisle, you can release the armrest and have unimpeded egress.
That's what I do ... I always select aisle for long haul and release the armrest if I need to get out.

Edit: Funny note - I was on UL SIN-CMB early this year and released the armrest when I got in and out of my aisle seat. I was in 20H, which on a UL A330 is bulkhead and there was a shadow next to me. The thing about the SIN-CMB or CMB-MAA or BKK-CMB route is many speak Tamil and I'm of Tamil origin. Right across in in row 21, which is in line with row 20 (due to the closet), I overheard a wife & husband talking. Wife is sitting in the aisle seat and husband is on the middle seat of the middle 4 seats in A330. This is the translation -

Wife: "see, he (pointing at me) is able to lift the armrest, why am I not able to".
Husband: "I'm not sure, but the armrest is not movable I think, may be his armrest is broken".
Wife: "I think my seat is broken"
Husband: "It's not the seat, just the armrest. Why do you want to move the armrest anyways"
Wife: "It looks comfortable to sit without the armrest"
Husband: "The armrest is there for your comfort"
Wife: "It's not comfortable for me <Wife's voice raises>"
Husband: "Ok, wait, we can ask the FA when they come by"
Wife: "Why don't ask that guy (pointing to me)"
Husband: "No, let's wait for the FA"
Wife: "Let me ask him (again, pointing at me)"
The Husband gives in, at this point and says;
Husband: "Ok, wait, I will ask him, be calm"

The Husband then asks me what to do and I tell him that there is a small lever that can be lifted to move the armrest on aisle seats. After a few seconds of trying to find it, they were successful :D

I hope that this is not to far off topic, but I had an interesting thought (to me at least) yesterday when I came down with Covid for the 3rd time, after flying SYD-CBR in QF business on Friday.

Each time I contracted Covid it was within 3 days of flying domestically in business, with seemingly unwell people (without mask) sat next to me. I realise that this is only conjecture, but I find it interesting that I have never caught Covid in economy or on an overseas trip (I had two last month), irrespective of cabin class.

I'm just speculating, but it might have something to do with higher mask usage in many overseas countries (note, I do not travel to the USA).

Done a few flights recently and the number of people who have no headphones for their phones etc is amazing.
I do not have headphones for my phone but then I do not listen to anything on my phone in public apart from phone calls and I try to take speaker off when on a call in public.

If you think you're entitled to do anything you want then nothing is going to stop you from doing it. People can be very selfish.

The airlines used to also hire people to smoke in Y, just to ensure the worst experience in Y.
Otherwise customers used to complain about not meeting (terrible) expectations.
We wore an onion at our belt, as was the style at the time …

Air NZ premY.
Pax in 25E keeps stretching his legs into my seat.
Younger than teen.
Using in-flight wifi and every few mins there is the push!
Half an hour to go and I need a pee and he keeps kicking.
Not happy Jan/Kan/Haorra...

I suppose this is just the joys of travelling. Sometimes we an do something about it and sometimes we just have to suck it up. I was once annoyed that someone would think to recline on a 2 hour flight (I don't usually recline) but I am used to it now.
It's frustrating when you're trying to do work on a flight (eg. On a laptop). However, after connecting on three domestic flights to PER from overnight 6am SYD int arrivals this year, I realised why sleeping on a daytime flight can be appealing

Very rarely, if ever, is it essential to grab the back of the seat in front to get out into the aisle.

Can understand pax in front getting upset if their seat was jostled :(
As someone whose preference is for an aisle, rarely will a flight go by that someone doesn't use the seat for support as they walk by. A bit different to someone trying to wrench themself up when stuck behind a recliner, but still an unwelcome jolt at times.

I also can't understand the concept of jeans being comfortable.
(Slightly stretchy but snug) jeans are my go-to plane bottoms. But I know others detest them! I think they're a good weight and temperature for me.
