With the long anticipated announcement having finally come to our attention, have you, or are you planning to join the Virgin Blue Velicoty FF program?

Where do you read that? I would be surprised if business award was included in an example (given who they are targetting) but absence of example doesnt mean no business awards.

NM - what about the option "Yes - but only to get any specials for founding members"

As a traveller frequently at the whim of my travel booking department, I sometimes end up on a DJ flight. As such, it'd be silly not to have membership.

What specials for founding members? Have I missed something?

Didnt see any on the site, but could see them offering something as extra incentive to sign up.

I'm going to adopt a "wait and see approach".

Although I do very little domestic flying I do have a bias towards VB.

Most of my flying is either to the US or Asia and the I can't see the link up with emirates being of any benefit to me.

Well I've just signed up (I'm getting the hang of this, what else can I join?).

Dont fly DJ often, but as with other posters, sometimes you (or whoever is paying for the ticket at the time) just cant justify the difference in price, so end up doing a few legs a year. And being free to join, what have you got to loose. Even if I only end up with 200 points at the end of the year, it has cost me nothing apart from 5 mins (that I should have been working). And being one of those founding members, who knows.......

Maybe if QF sees that there is a rush to join up, it might spark them into action faster.

I hope it is a random membership number, otherwise, even assuming every number starts with 2100, over 1/2 million people have signed up before me! So much for founding member.

Hey NM, think your fingers got the better of you in the Poll and your first post: what's "Velicoty" ??? :P

Just sent an email to Brett:

Hi Brett,

Congratulations on the introduction of Velocity today.

Thought you might be interested with the comments already about the program on Australian Frequent Flyer (an Australian-based Frequent Flyer bulletin board that I frequent). You've already got your own Forum:
http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/discus/viewforum.php?f=64

Another one that you will want to get some discussion going on is Flyertalk (it's a US based one, but there are a lot of Australians on the QF Forum): http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=492801

BTW, nice goatee for the CA ads on TV. Very distinguished.

Brett's reply was much quicker than I thought:

Hi Lindsay,

Thanks for dropping a line. Haven't had a chance to look at the new threads today, but our team has been researching the AFF discussion boards for over a year. I actually had a chat with Clifford a while back to get his perspective. We sincerely hope our program appeals to the AFF members. If nothing else, maybe we can at least help them get a better deal from the red rat by showing that it can be done. But we think it's a great program and should lure a few more aboard us too. Glad you like the goatee. Hope Qantas like our "Happy Birthday". Must run.

regards

Brett

Any bets on how long before that e-mail shows up on Crikey.com.au?!

"Red rat" LOL!

Well, if it didn't contain at least one typo, it wouldn't be an authentic NM post, now would it  .

Now we will have to decide the board name for the program. Perhaps Velcrocity as an indication of the one and only status level?

I'm prepared to bet my first born that velocity as it currently stands won't have much, or any of an impact on QF FF.... like my uncle Jeb used to say 'if your product is the same, its boring'.

I had interpreted it as meaning AFF, given the post from Lindsay Wilson a few before it

I joined the program for those trips down to LST and HBA. Last two times flew DJ, as more than happy to avoid JQ, and QF's timings (particularly the one LST service) just don't suit me. I am sure a lot of Tasmanians will join up!
