Maybe you already know that it's fiddly and time consuming to travel between Hawaii and Tahiti in either direction because you need to route through AKL and the connection options aren't coordinated well. The inconvenience factor is compounded even more if you want to go to Bora Bora because the extra flight from Papeete to Bora Bora can increase the total travel time to over 30 hours.

Your chances of getting award flights for 2 people would be very poor (more so at Xmas time). So I'd think your chances of getting spots for 4 pax would be virtually impossible.

IMO they are better tackled as 2 separate trips of about 7 - 10 days each although maybe I'd allow a bit more time in Hawaii if you wanted to do some island hopping, which is well worth it..

Can you convert your Altitude or Amex points to the KrisFlyer program ? For the next day or so you can still redeem flights on AIR NZ in 2018 from Melbourne to Tahiti return in Business class for 35,000 KrisFlyer miles per person. I think the rate is jumping up a fair bit after the 8th or 10th of Dec though. Not sure how to slip HNL into that mix though.

There are direct flights between HNL and PPT - on Hawaiian. AA does codeshare on some HA-operated flights, but don't know if that's the case with the PPT flights.

Yes there are some HNL - PPT flights I wasn't aware of, but for clarification the choices are limited - only one flight per week (Saturdays) at a cost of over $US1000 pp in Y one way.
