I know Hawaiian Airlines has been an Amex transfer partner for some time now.

I'd heard somewhere that with the Hawaiian and Alaska merger you can transfer miles between those two programs.

I know Alaska has some pretty good redemption sweet spots and of course they are part of OneWorld.

I'd always found it disappointing that Amex AU didn't have a direct transfer option with one of the big US airlines. Previously I'd looked at transferring Amex to Marriott and then to either AA or Alaska but the rate doesn't turn out great.

Since Amex to Hawaiian is 2:1 (same as QF and most other partners) and it seems that Hawaiian to Alaska is 1:1, this seems like a great option for us AU Amex card holders.

I was looking at some US domestic redemptions via QF but it seems that Alaska requires fewer miles and taxes.

Yes Hawaiian to Alaska is 1:1 but Alaska announced last year they are going to stop this transfer this year. When that will occur remains a big mystery.

From 2025, you also earn elite qualifying miles on bookings using points.

Well I just did my first Alaska redemption and it was an entirely straight forward process.

Firstly, I created Hawaiian and Alaska accounts.

I then transferred my Amex MR points to my Hawaiian account which came through instantly.

I then used the following link to transfer my new Hawaiian miles to Alaska which also came through instantly.

I was then able to book my flight.

What a shame.

From 2025, you also earn elite qualifying miles on bookings using points.

Presumably won't be able to do this if I attach my QF account the booking so that I can use my OWE benefits.

So I have been able to add both QF and AS number on the same booking.
I have not taken the flight so I can’t comment on where they are going to credit it.
It is a QF marketed flight and I am a Qantas point club member so can be credited to QF too. I will be happy to take any tbh!
