Two adults two children for a 9pm Emirates flight - we plan to arrive no later than 6pm. Is this likely to be enough time? Any other tips or things to expect? My wife is quite anxious about a long-haul after so much covid; anything else you can suggest to make the experience any more comfortable?

Cheers, Steve

Should be plenty though it took me 55 mins to get through security at a similar time two Fridays ago

Not sure if you have any lounge options-QF may be closed at that time

If worried about covid, the best you can do is be vaccinated and wear an N95 mask while around people though IMO you are no more likely to catch it en route than a normal Australian social/work/school life.

As for covid travel disruptions, check your insurance. If you caught covid here, you'd still be isolating (though not necessarily the whole family depending on state)

Thanks! We are triple-vaxxed, and the kids are double-vaxxed. And we all have covid right now with mild symptoms, so that is probably pretty well-timed; all out of iso by next week

Good luck for your travels. We are doing the same trip with the same traveling party next month except ex-MEL. I'll be interested to hear if the check-in process is back to normal and also how you find the onboard experience e.g. enforcement of mask wearing.

If you don't mind me asking, how old are your kids? I have a 6 and almost 4 yr old and note the EK website states that masks are not required for "children under 6 year old". I don't fancy my chances of getting either of them to mask up for that long.

Also interested, making the same trip on the 1st. Seriously hoping the lounge is open, or I'm gonna be peeved. That's a bit more than miffed.

6pm is perfectly fine. I arrived at 0645pm a couple of Friday's ago and everything went very smoothly. Not more than 20 - 25 minutes between check-in and in departure area.
As for the lounge, that will be the big disappointment. The QF lounge closes around 7pm when the last flight to CHC leaves. Then you can go to the Premium Plaza Lounge which is NOT WORTH GOING AT ALL - you are better placed at Maccas!

The other lounge still open is the Amex lounge (if you qualify).

EK413 last Thursday I was through security in 5 mins. The terminal past passports is totally dead though - quite depressing IMO.

When I came back from the UK in Jan I had to change my flight as people in dubai required negative PCR even to transit, which I couldnt get as PCR stays positive well after infection, not sure if thats still current but worth looking into ...

I am gonna fly on EK413 this coming Sunday. Good to know that the QF lounge will close at 7. (I have a free QF lounge pass linked to it.) I might just head to the Amex lounge directly.
