I am arriving 0540 in Terminal 3 on QF9 and connecting to a BA flight in Terminal 5 departing around 0930. I plan to utilize QC or No 1 in Terminal 3. I'd like to spend as much time in a lounge as possible.

What is involved with transferring/timings between terminals? I'm presuming that my luggage will be checked thru to my final destination.

Thanks.

What status with QF do you have? From 31 Jan QP members should be ok for T5

Luggage should be checked through.
I would be doing the transfer to T5 then spending time in the T5 lounge.
Airside the transfer is in a bus and is about a 10min journey.
T5 security can be another matter.

From response I received to this thread, I don't think access to the QF lounge is available to arrivals in T3:

Also, arrival at 0540 at T3 and departure at 0930 from T5 doesn't allow a great amount of time for lounge-lingering.

I think it would be prudent to get to T5 before dawdling into lounges.

The usual transport is bus (follow 'flight connections' signs).

Getting through security at T5 can be a zoo.

If you have status or are a QClub member, use the BA lounge in T5.

Some recent problems with access for QP members has just been resolved (see Lounge access LHR T5 thread).

We did this in Dec and it took us around 45mins to complete the transfer.

I agree with JohnM, complete the transfer & then use the appropriate T5 lounge according to your status or ticket.

I was lucky, I did a T3 -> T5 Transfer in about 25mins flat stepping off QF31 in November. My personal record.

I believe LHR/BA advice it can take anywhere up to 90mins.

do the transfer first, transfer times in my experience take between 45min and 1h30. The lounge in T5 is nicer than T3 as well. I have a 6h layover in April and will go to T5 as fast as I can :D

You have more than enough time, I usually leave 3 hours and always get at least 1 to 1.5 hours in the lounge. Time for a shower and breakfast. Transfer is very quick and easy....just follow the signs. As others have said, check bags through to final destination. Customs can be hit and miss as can security. I have always done this as J passenger or with WP status, and you get preferential security, but not preferential customs clearance.

You have time as long as your inbound flight isn't late. I always allow at least 3-4 h connection time but last time we were delayed out of SIN and it was a bit of a mad rush in LHR to get over to T5, into the lounge and get a shower (there's always a wait for a shower in my experience) and breakfast before the connecting flight left.

I also have to fly from T5 on BA in a couple of days, I have current QC membership but my actual card never arrived before I left Australia in September, though they say it was sent. QC seems uncontactable by email, Will I still be able to use lounge and QC check in? Does anyone have a way to get through to request my card without waiting on phone? Thanks!

On my last trip from T3-T5 it took me 1hr 30 to get through all of the security. With the delayed arrival of my flight into LHR I only just made it. Next time I will be allowing a fair bit longer for the transit.

I arrive on BA12 at 4.50am for a 7.15am connection to Stockholm.

I do not anticipate any dramas as it is the first flight arrival of the morning.

That's assuming I make the connection in Singapore from QF9:eek:
