G'day all!

My name is Ben, long time reader, first time poster.

I'm a QFF Gold, and currently sitting in the Admirals Club in DWF after missing my connecting flight to IAD.

Background - All flights bought in the Y class...

Anyway, getting straight to the point, this trip has been pretty good for me, as I got OPUP'd to business from DWN>SYD, then from SYD>SFO OpUP'd from Y to Y+, and then Business from SFO>NYC... then I had to settle back to cattle class for the NYC>MIA, back to Business from MIA>CUN.

Then did the CUN>MEX and now MEX>DWF>IAD.

Question; when you get op-up'd are you meant to receive the Business points and SC's? I mean, not that I'm complaining that Im getting Business for Y prices, but was just a thought.

In my Qantas activity statment, it says Economy/Business but only got credited for the economy points. - Like i said, I'm not one for pushing the buttons considering so far almost 90% of my trip has been up-ed...

Oh, and another question. I've got plenty of flights booked over the next few months, most as flexi-savers, with the hope of scoring ODU'd. When I use my points to upgrade from Y to Business, do you get credited the points/SC's as Economy or Business?

Thanks all! And Hello from Sunny Dallas-FortWorth!

Ben.

You will get points in the class you paid for rather than the OP UP. If you use Any Seat
on QF you get both Status Credits and FF points.
Dont know what American does other than straight use of points for J and F where you get the flight and that is it on Classic thru QF.

Cheers Cove!

When you say "Any Seat", what I'm (hoping) to do is use the "upgrade using points", does that equal "any seat" reward... The Flexi-Savers are already paid for..

Ben.

I could not get ANY SEAT to work in a straight out DFW to LAX so someone else may know more.
Typically I just book First or Business on QF Classic points straight out to go on the longer US flights but this could have consequences in your ticketing if they then treat you as a no show on a linked group of flights.
I am in Los Angeles and going A380 tonight to Sydney.

No, same as an op-up, you get the points from the fare class you booked.

An Any Seat Award works only on QF and JQ metal, so I’m gonna hazard a guess Qantas would not fly DFW to LAX. And even if they did, I’m pretty sure they can only sell tickets that go on to leave the country.

When you pst Y class, do you mean "Full Economy" or other WHY classes such as B, H, V or Q? If the former this does indeed increase your OP-UP chances on full flights.

As for points upgrades, these are not "any seat" awards, they are simply upgrades and you should receive QFF Points/SC's as for the originally booked class for the segment.

3 weeks ago (on July 1) I flew DFW to LAX on QF3066 (a 757-200, codeshare with AA)....

Economy. You get SCs/points for the class that you paid for, not for the class that you end up sitting in on the plane.

Economy, for the same reason as stated above.
