Long time member, but I forgot my login so had to setup a new one
I looked at this on the weekend and decided I need help planning the flights for my ‘mums trip’ to the Maldives later this year, specifically flights from ADL-KUL-ADL as the KUL-MLE have already been booked. And, I want to treat myself to Business Class since there are no kids with me. I’m paying so want it to be a nice experience.
Options are
1 - Malaysia Airlines ADL-KUL Return - direct flight 11am-4pm on the way there, 1030pm-810am on the way back - $3,975 . Very simple, no connections other than to-from Male.
2 - Singapore Airlines - SYD-SIN-KUL - and then KUL-SIN-ADL or SIN-ADL with a seperate flight from KUL-SIN on the way back - $4,216. Longer transit time, and connections.
I have always wanted to try SQ J Class and have heard that MH food and IFE is no where near as good as SQ, and the QF points/SCs are nothing to write home about so the extra $250 to fly SQ seems to be worth it, but it would mean leaving ADL on the 6am flight (instead of 11am) and returning at 5pm (instead of 8:10am). Not a huge deal as it’s just me and my book (did I mention I’m not travelling with kids?!).
I am just a bit worried about a 2 hour connection time in KUL from the MLE flight landing at 7:40pm, and the SQ flight leaving at 9:45pm. Do you think there is any chance MH Male would check my bags through to the SQ flight so I don’t have to collect & recheck? Alternatively, I thought about booking a MH shuttle flight leaving at 11:30pm for $50 to get me to Singapore and then booking just the SQ SIN-ADL flight leaving at 8am the next morning - rather than chancing that I will make the 9:45pm SQ flight.
I also looked at going from Melbourne as DOM-INTL transfer is simpler, but strangely I can get an award flight from ADL-SYD for 12,000 points, but 24,000 and 36,000 to MEL. I think because it’s around the Melbourne Cup time.
I think these prices are fairly reasonable for business class, particularly as Adelaide doesn’t have too many international flights and small aircraft with less sale J seats.
Help me out - do I book with Malaysia Airlines or Singapore Airlines? If Singapore Airlines - do you think I would make a 2hr connection from MH to SQ in KUL or book the shuttle flight and just go SIN-ADL the next morning.
