On 18th November i had a J rewards from BKK - SIN - SYD. What is confusing me is that i clearly remember by the time i got off the place in singapore, went through the immigration and security, went to the next terminal and walked a mile to the boarding gate, we were already boarding. How is this possible?

I was about to book Jetstar 1 hour later than the below CX flight and recalled how close i was. Am i missing something?

YOUR ITINERARY AND TRAVEL DETAILS:

BRITISH AIRWAYS BA15 (U) CONFIRMED

CX and Jetstar Asia both arrive in Terminal 4 which is not directly connected to the other terminals (T1, T2, and T3).

There is an airside shuttle bus which you can take if baggage is checked-through and you have an onward boarding pass. Otherwise, yes, clear immigration and customs and take a Grab over to T1 for a British airways flight out of T1.

It does take time, and is not very convenient for Singaporean Changi standards.

I'm not sure I understand the question?

However.... looking at your itinerary, CX619 arrived at the gate at 5:03pm that day, which was some 43 minutes behind schedule. So if we assume boarding for BA15 commenced 50 minutes prior to the scheduled 8:05pm departure on those dates, then that only gave you about 2hrs 10mins to get off the CX plane and make it to the BA flight (as opposed to the near 3hrs you would have otherwise enjoyed had your CX flight arrived as scheduled). The shuttle bus from the transit area in T4 would have taken 10-18 minutes to arrive at T1 (assuming you got straight onto one), otherwise as per @exLXCXFF, you would need to clear immigration and customs then either take a Grab (or take the 10 minute shuttle), all of which would add even more time.

All of this is to say that only you can really decide whether you have enough time to make your connections if you fly Jetstar one hour later than the CX service. If it's all on one booking, then you should be looked after in the event of a missed connection due to late arrival of aircraft. Otherwise, if it's a case of how quickly you can move to get from one flight in T4 to the next flight in T1, then that's a judgement call you'll need to make.

Did you take the airside transit bus? There should not have been any immigration procedures during that transit, just a security check at the gate before the BA flight.

I think that you can do 2 hours 10 mins if you know how it works / know Changi & Grab well assuming you don't have to pick up luggage.

T4 can take a lot of time to get your luggage, especially if you have no status. Also, CX uses the G18/G19 gates at the very very end of T4, so the walk / run to Immigration is the longest possible. Jetstar Asia sometimes uses similar gates too (G16/G17, especially Indonesia flights).

I would only do that if on one single ticket.

Another point to note is that in ports like Singapore, Malaysia - the GATE OPENS (I think) 90 or so minutes before departure and boarding commences 60 to 40 (or so mins) before departure. Could it be that (and I apologise if that is not the case) you saw the GATE OPEN, people clearing gate security and thought the flight was boarding? I have seen this happen a few times in KUL, where pax (in the lounge & near the gate) panic that flight is boarding, when it was only the gate is open for security checks.

On 18th November i had a J rewards from BKK - SIN - SYD.
Also, this statements makes me think that you had all the legs in the same ticket, in which case, why did you have to clear immigration at SIN? ACK you are changing airlines, and *assuming* that you did not get the BA BP at BKK, you could have gone to the transfer desk and collected the onward BA BP?

Apologies, i didnt have to clear immigration i only went through security and it was a single ticket. But i was given the evil run down there at the security desk.

I also took the internal bus, through.

I may just take the morning flight out of bangkok to allow for any issues
