Hi everyone

We are flying from hnl-syd (home) on sunday 15th august - we are traveling with out 5 month old baby boy - very good traveler.

My husband and i are both qantas frequest flyers i have just over 60,000 points and he has just over 70,000.

We have requested for an upgrade using points and are waiting till the day to find out - we need to upgrade because there are NO bassinet seats available - our chances of basinet are low as there are 5 infants on the waiting list...

My qantas club membership has just expired and i have the option to pay for the renewal however considering the $435 will paying it - and renewing increase our chances of an upgrade or not...???

Please help us work this out ....:p

thank you
Bec from sydney

I would definitely not be paying for Qantas Club membership on the hope that it might improve the upgrade chance.

QF4 is still currently looking like there may be reasonable availability in business class , though it may change in the next 2 weeks

I dont think the QP will help, to be frank I doubt there is much you can do but wait and see, and if nothing clears in 24 hours before then get to the airport early.

hi dave noble

how are able to see that there are still business seats?

so it sounds like there no point us renewing our membership to get a better chance...we'll do anything for a basinett seat - hence willing to give up our points for an upgrade....

im sorry everyone i am new to this website - just looking for some help....our baby boy is such a good boy i just dont want to be holding him for a 10.5 hour flight...

attn dave nobel - as i leave this friday are you able to update on on whether the business status changes? if it does ill renew my qantas club membership....could you private message me if you are able to see if anything changes?
:p

I dont think there is anything for you to say sorry about! Moving to J or getting a bassinet is definitely a lottery, given there are only two on the plane in total, I would also look at getting a middle row allocation close to the back with two aisle seats allocated when you check in, it would would take a very full flight for these to be allocated, being the 30 odd most unpopular seats.

You can keep an eye on the flight in terms of seats by looking at seatexpert, I think it is free for a month?

hi markis10

as far as i can see on seatexpert it just shows a seating map - not what seats are actually taken etc...

It shows a seat map with what is occupied or on hold/blocked, its not perfect but it does show your flight to be busy, things change as the departure date gets closer and the lack of award fares being available indicates QF expect to sell most seats, but as long as it shows J9 then you are in with a hope for that upgrade.

I think you're referring to SeatCounter - The Booking Class Availability Machine or Flight Availability | Upgrades | Frequent Flyer Information

Hi Everyone

if we were to change our flights - depart sydney on friday 6th and depart hawaii on friday 13th are our chances of basinett better?

Which flight out of these should i put in for an upgrade in the case that we dont get a basinett...

I'd actually suggest ringing QF and getting them to put a note in your current booking about wanting a bassinet seat.

I dont think you will improve the situation much short of changing your flights to one that is only just been made available for sale (ie just under a year away), the one bassinet in Y really makes it hard.

we only have enough points to upgrde one leg...

we need a basinett on both..

should we request upgrade for syd-hnl or hnl-syd.....

which is more likely?

I dont know which is more likely but request both. Its a night flight on the way over.
If you get it on the way over all good. Just means you wont get it on the way home as your points have already been used up. Its all a lottery and you either will or wont get upgraded. Request the bassinet seat anyway.

Unless you have status , others with status will get the upgrades should they put in for it.

Another thing you can try if the plane is not full is to check in early and see if the check-in staff can arrange an empty seat next to you.

the only other solution I can think of is to use the available FF points to get an extra award seat in economy each way if any are available. Use the spare seat for the baby after takeoff.
