Hi all,

I booked a Milan to Rome flight on Alitalia using the Edreams website a few days ago, and have realized that I put my English name rather than my chinese name (which is the name on my passport) on the booking.

If this was Australia domestic, that wouldn't be a problem (just open up my wallet with 10 other forms of identity) and besides, with online checkin I basically walk straight onto the plane.
But in this case, it's in Europe and I don't want to risk getting stranded.

It says on the ticket "LOW COST FARE - CANNOT BE CHANGED OR CANCELLED" - Does that mean the only way to be safe is to book another ticket on that flight with the right name?

Hope someone can give me advice on this. Thanks!

Have you contacted Edreams?

They may allow you to change the name on the ticket but there may be change fees involved and in the end it may be best to throw that one away and book a new ticket.

I've tried emailing them, and got a reply saying "We would like to inform you that your reservation fare does not permit any changes of names or cancellation", and that if there's any questions, call edreams on their 1902 number (which charges over $3 per minute)
Alternatively, I suppose I could try contacting Alitalia directly, but they have no call centre in Australia.

Looks like I'll have to spend another $137 on a second ticket for the same plane - hopefully I can checkin online, and reserve a vacant seat next to myself!

I know Alitalia very well and fly them a few times year within Italy
Do you have your drivers licence or other ID in your English name?
Alitalia have check in kiosks everywhere at their check in lines and their staff will urge you to use them. You can check in this way without buying a new ticket or having to show ID. (as long as you have other ID with you) In Europe between the Schengen regions a lot of people do not use their passport but actually a Europe ID card.

Got to love the "No cancellation" condition on some of these tickets. It can't hurt to try Alitalia but they may give you the same answer.

Do you have to travel with Alitalia? EasyJet may be a little cheaper otherwise your suggestion sounds good. Don't inform them of cancellation and check-in online for both reservations and hopefully they will not be able to sell the seat and you are left with a spare seat next to you.
