Hi,

I've just booked a 1030 am flight with American Eagle departing terminal 6.

Can we check in early, go thru security, then from terminal 6 walk inside to TBIT to visit qantas first Lounge for breaky (Platinum) And if so, how long should this process take?

Or....should we check bags.....walk outside to TBIT, enter there....go to lounge, then walk airside back to terminal 6?

thanks

TQ

Are you sure it's terminal 6 and not the remote terminal that requires a shuttle bus?
Either way I am pretty sure that to go to TBI you need to go outside the terminal.

could be the remote terminal, as it's a smaller plane.
how would I find this out before day of flight?

The remote terminal or Eagles nest is now numbered gates 60a-60h ... there are buses between TBIT, T4 & T6 and the Eagles nest.

You can also walk airside between TBIT and T4 to T8.

Where are you flying to? I'd say it's almost certainly from the remote terminal.

Hi,
we are flying to Jackson Hole, and since I saw talk of this "remote terminal" I now know that it is commonly referred to as "eagles nest" and that our flight will leave from there.

So now.....do we check in at TBIT so we can have breaky in the first lounge, and then get the shuttle bus from there to "Eagles nest " ?
Or, do we need to check our bags in at terminal 6?

we will have ski equipment....and my husband is paranoid about them loosing outskirts boots etc

what would be the best use of time
eg check in at 6 and walk to TBIT, or check in at Terminal 4, or TBIT, and shuttle back

Is that even possible to check in at a different terminal?

TQ

I have a flight out of this terminal coming up too and I am not looking forward to it based on what I have read.
I am pretty sure you can check in at Terminal 6 and then walk back to TBIT and then walk back to terminal 6, go through security and then get the infrequent unreliable shuttle bus.
The shuttle also runs from Terminal 4 which might be handy for you as it's closer to TBIT.

You can walk airside (post-security) between T6, T4,and TBIT. If you are leaving from the remote terminal, you can take the shuttle from T4 or T6.

You'll be on two buses for that one, I'd consider it to much of a waste of time trekking across the terminals for breakfast knowing what is ahead to get on the plane.

Let us know what you decide to do.

Matt

You can check in at T4.

What I would do is check in then walk landside around to TBIT.

Once at TBIT go down the escalator to the Arrivals Level and use the new transit security - reports are its pretty quick (not well known).

Apparently this brings you out adjacent to the Qantas First Lounge.

Once finished, I would walk out, use the upper level connector to T4 then catch the bus to the EaAgles nest. (You could also take the tunnel from T4, proceed under T5 through to T6 and catch the Bus there if you fell like some exercise.)

Note that there is planned to soon be a combined TBIT/T4 airside bus stop.

I'd use the recently opened TBIT arrivals security. It's generally rather quiet.

It's off the lower road, so I suggest checkin in at T4, walk around to TBIT, head down the stairs/escalator, enter TBIT arrivals hall then turn left.

It's down at the end, more here:

read:LAX AA T-4 - TBIT secure airside connector open 25 Feb 2016

The T4-TBIT connector links from Gate 41 to right next to the QF F lounge. The "Eagles Nest" remote gates were changed from T4 gates (44A-H) to T6 gates (60A-H) a few months ago. Buses between T6 and the remote gates are far more common then buses to/from T4 or TBIT.

Hi Serfty,

Thank you so much. That is fantastic information.

we actually arrive to Sheraton lax the afternoon before from Santa Monica.
im thinking we could even go across to terminal 6 that afternoon, and check our luggage in.
However, my husband thinks that they will loose our luggage
for sure, if we check it I that early
then the next morning, we could go straight to TBIT.
hows that for a plan? All possible ?
also, how much time should we leave to get from TBIT to Eagles nest? Our flight is 1030 am, so do we need to leave lounge by 9am......or more like 930?

TQ

Not sure you can check bags the day before. Check-in at T6 does open at 4am.

I'd leave at or shortly after 9am, the flight boards 10:20am and it could take 30-45 minutes to reach the Nest - no less than 20.

There is a lounge (A/C) at the nest if you arrive there with still some minutes before boarding.

Hi everyone,

I thought I'd let you know how we went, getting to remote terminal 6.

We arrived from San Diego late the afternoon before our flight, and stayed at Sheraton Gateway LAX.

We checked in to hotel, but then returned hire car to Advantage. They they shuttled us back to airport.
So we checked in for our flight at terminal 4 ( AA flight was 10 30 am next day ) Got our boarding passes, and I asked the kerbside staff about bringing bags there in the morning......" Sure....no problem "

Alarm set for 6am, and we were on the 630 am shuttle bus to the airport.
Checked our bags in at terminal 4 kerbside. The computer wanted to charge us for baggage ( both WP)
The man didn't tell us this at the time, he knew exactly that we didn't need to pay for baggage.
He was great, he went inside and sorted it out, came back, tagged our bags priority and we were done.

We we walked around to TBIT, down to arrivals to the security that Serfty told us about.
There was quite a lot of people but we though, of well we are here now. It didn't take us too long to get through, but just to note, that we are TSA approved ( don't know why ? ) and the staff told us that if had used the security upstairs we would have had a priority line which would have been much faster. Downstairs it's only one line, and you then have people excusing themselves to get in front of you, as they are trying to make a connecting flight. Maybe it was that early morning time, where there seemed to be lots of people off international flights.

Then off to find the Qantas first lounge. Just a five minute walk, and we were in, seated and ordering coffee and breakfast. Arhhh....very nice after a few days on the run !! We were there by 730, and left at 9 am. So plenty of time to relax.

So, when we left, we thought we would walk to terminal 6. This was easily done. My husband and I are quick walkers, and it took us about 10 mins. Straight to the gate for the connecting bus, straight out, and onto a bus. Our timing was great.
So, we arrived at the remote terminal before 930, and entered the lounge at the remote terminal for another 45 min.
Our gate was opposite the lounge, so boarding started, and then onto another bus for 100 metres to the plane for boarding on the tarmac.
We had the first row in economy, and with only 17 passengers in total, I went across to the other side so we could both spread out, and enjoy the view coming into Jackson Hole.

So, for us, it was easily done. But many thanks to everyone for your help telling us where to go !!

TQ

Great ... and thanks for the timings.

Yes, 7am would be pretty busy at TBIT with the transpacifics arriving all around that time (15 or more wide-bodies).

Seems like you had TSA Precheck, for non US residents this is supposedly random - certainty not guaranteed. (Keep Belt & Shoes on, leave LAG Bags and Laptop in bags). Not usable upstairs at TBIT other than priority, but is at T4 and T6 security.

Yes - what Serfty said.

I'm presuming you're not in the "profiled" age-group for potential nefarious activities, so in true TSA fashion - once-a-year travelers to the US often get TSA Precheck.

For next time - you don't have to walk all the way to T6 from the QF lounge. You can just board the bus at T4 Gate 44, and it will take you all the way to the Nest without needing to walk to T6 first (and then taking the bus in any event).

My 16-year-old daughter got TSA approved on our recent trip. The rest of us weren't quite as lucky.

Random for US residents too, for those not enrolled in a Trusted Traveler program. Those of us who are enrolled in a Trusted Traveler program (mostly Global Entry or NEXUS, I used to be enrolled in the former and am now enrolled in the latter), or who are TSA Precheck enrolled, get it at a much higher rate.
