Hi,

Hubby QF WP, are travelling around Europe next month, and about to book all internal flights.

If we book with BA, as a WP, do you get luggage allowance, and free seat selection?

Is this the best one world partner to try to fly with?

All suggestions welcome.

Thanks in advance

TQ

Yes to Q1 and 2.

Who knows for Q3. Intra Europe, BA is ok as a WP. Lounges are available and ok. We've done it quite regularly. Not wonderful but European airlines are nothing to write home about. BA are some of the better ones... IMHO.

For the last bit, it really depends on where you are travelling to/from. WP benefits also available on Air Berlin (as well as IB, AY) and could be better for intra continental Europe (saves backtracking) - although lounges are hit and miss. Under Oneworld rules, you can use any available lounge eg BA lounge when flying on AB out of Berlin (Tegal).

Both BA and AB do reasonably one way fares. Many euro carriers will want to charge Full Fare on one way sectors!

BA allows multi sector bookings that could save you $. It pays to experiment with pricing individual flights and multi-sector itinaries originating from continental Europe.

Originating from continental EU, you'll find yourself paying for two one way fares for something like CDG-LHR-FCO for example. Be careful of BA codeshares operated by VY they're akin to QF codeshares operated by JQ.

So, just looking at booking some flights now.....

If the BA flight price is a "hand luggage only" fare, does that mean we will get a bag allowance being WP, or does it just mean hand luggage only?

TQ

HBO fares only include Hand Luggage , regardless of your status. You are also assigned a seat automatically that you can't change unless you pay a fee(unless you use the self service checkin kiosks, where you can change the seat).

BA's hand baggage rules are actually quite generous, and often you are allowed to gate check any large bags as the overheads are always overfull.

Just remembered another tip. If you haven't already, register as a user of BA.com. It should let you through without having to sign up to the BA FF programme (Executive Club). Once you have a booking, make sure you can see it in the BA manage bookings (even though your QFF# is in the booking).

You may get offers for upgrades to Business class at significantly reduced rates.

Hope you've found some flights to your liking. But if you haven't, if the trip involves significant backtracking via London, sometimes worth considering the likes of easy jet if they operate where you want to go, or alternatively plunge into the dark side(s) .... whilst the likes of Lufthansa/Swiss/SAS etc have very expensive one way flights, on some of the online travel agent sites you can combine two sectors (even between different cities) using multi-city booking engine and it will give you much lower return like pricing. Again useful if you have several sectors that would involve significant backtracking via LHR.

Of course, if you want to do this to experience the F lounge at LHR, make sure you leave enough time to enjoy!
