Help yourself snacks on A380

Last time I tried to self serve in the F section of the A380 I didn't get to see what was there. The FA was quite offended and asked what he could bring me!

I've never attempted to utilise any self serve in F.

I tend to go upstairs and sit in the little lounge and let the FA know to keep my champagne glass charged.

Usually, in that instance I order the steak sandwich, which is brought up for me.

I have staggered to the galley in the middle of the night and stayed for a chat while they prepare one. The steak sandwich the best anytime option IMO. Generally I've found they're happy to make anything however in F if they still have it and it's not ruined like some ice cream was the other day.

The self-serve options are rather limited in F, it feels more a token award for adventuring into the galley. A jug of water, few chocolates and fruit. They do set it up nicely with plates and glasses ready and sometimes a menu sitting out in case you want to order something.

On the 747 service they try to offer something similar in both F and J. On QF5 if you walk downstairs you'll find the prem. economy snack bar at its base. Get a bit of variety that way if you're bored and/or stuck next to someone with a chocolate addiction ;)

My Business class A380 from SYD to LAX soon after takeoff I walked forward and helped myself to 2 cans of beer (for 2 of us) from the front (and only self serve cupboard I saw) The FA busted me and insisted on pouring them into glasses and taking them back to our seat. But our seat was a fair way back and in another FA turf, got some strange looks from our FA but much better service from then on. Never needed the self serve bit again.

Can someone clarify where the self service snack bars are in the old and new a380 config for the various classes?

I've travelled 3 out of 4 of the classes and never managed to stumble onto it. QF really don't advertise it onboard. I did manage to find a bowl of pretzels last trip but I gather there's more hidden somewhere.

The times I've been on A380's in Y :( they have been hiding up the back just in front of the back stairs.

Does J have a booze bar similar to EK? My second A380 flight in as many months, I'm going to need "a few"

Self service "Bars":
  • First - None
  • Business - On the other side of the stairs from the "lounge", beers and a few wines generally out.
  • PE - I think there is one behind 38J/K on the old configuration, dunno about the new one.
  • Economy - behind 77C and at the rear behind row 88. (No Alcohol)

None on the new config y+. But it's such a small area a wander to the rear (y) galley to ask is easy and fa's happy to find something for you.

I don't really understand what's the reason for a bar like that. In Y it most likely is stocked very "light" and doesn't offer any booze (if it did, the bogans would be all around and it would be suicide to even attempt to mingle with the drunk crowd ). And in J or F even? As long as the service is decent (and in QF I it has been on pretty much all occasions in my experience) I can't see why you would wanna hang at a bar rather than getting served in your fairly comfy seat? But hey, each to their own- seems to be important to some.

i'm fairly sure there is a section you can access via the AVOD about a380 facilities onboard (which details locations of toilets/galleys/bars etc in each cabin class) ...please note i only assume this, due to watching a trip report video by someone travelling in QF a380 Y/C and they showed this feature on the AVOD during their trip report :)

Yep, that's where it is. No alcohol though. Not that it'll matter for much longer, the rest of the fleet will probably be all reconfigured soon...

My one complaint with the self serve snack bar is that there is not enough variety (at least on QF94 a couple of weeks ago). It would be nice if there was a few different selections as I don't remember what the cookie was, but there was a lot of them and not much else.
Have to agree with that - this is my issue with the "snack bar" - no variety! throw some nuts and pretzels in there at least. The cookies aren't that great - very dry...

There is a small self service bar on the left hand side of the galley in J between rows 15 & 16 on the old configuration!

behind 77c is the one I found. There was a bowl of pretzels. That's it.

They really should tell people. From memory even the menu just says there's fruit available during the flight.

some past cabin crew 'phrases' spring to mind... "this is the QF2..not the QE2" ... "it's the QF7 (or QF11)...not a 7eleven"

Well the other way to look at it is that I'd rather go for a walk to find something but if you insist on hiding it then I'm happy to use my call button.
