I'll be there for 3-4 nights in August and the prices seem rather exorbitant - disappointingly for Hotel Kamp especially, as an SPG enthusiast.

Can anyone provide some tips on getting value in HEL? Perhaps even Virtuoso agents have found some good deals?

I stayed in the Scandic Paasi a couple of months ago, would highly recommend it.

The idea behind this hotel chain does not suit everyone but we had a great experience with them in Helsinki, not 5 star but very comfortable. As you say hotels in Helsinki are expensive so this was our way around it. We stayed at Lonnrotinkatu & it was a very good location. Omenahotels - Budget hotels in Finland and Sweden [h=1][/h]

Helsinki is not the cheapest place in the world!

I had these one the list as I did research for September. I found the Finnair one at the top of the list to be the best for me (YMMV), and ended up booking an apartment through their system.

AirBNB may be worth trying too?

Edit: just saw the Finnair one updates to Booking.com. I have used booking.com for several places on this trip - it has a more useful search capability in my opinion.

I stayed at Radisson Blu and asked for a quiet business room which I found very comfortable and quiet. I caught the public bus right out side the a/port terminal for a few Euros and it was quick, comfortable and took a short detour via a few houses which was interesting and then stoped about 30m from the hotel. http://www.radissonblu.com/plazahotel-helsinki

Nearby is the metro, buses, and trams. The price included breakfast and was one of the best ever. I was able to check in at 0700, had a brekky even though I didn't 'qualify' and then hopped on their free bike with a map and had a wonderful time.

I booked us into the Radisson Blu seaside Helsinki for two nights in September... we were just going to use this as a quick stop to Russia but for some reason headed to Estonia now instead.... ferry is very cheap and so is the accommodation

I'm thinking I might extend my stay in Talinn and reduce Helsinki in part for that reason!

I'd definitely recommend the Glo Art hotel, very modern and clean, rooms are on the small side but did not really bother me. Also not badly priced usually.
