Hertz Australia taking on Porsche!

Price is a little higher than I expected - was expecting about $250-300 a day. Whilst I acknowledge there's a higher risk with a Porsche, a Cayman costs the same as a Merc E250 convertible (~$120k on road), which Europcar have for less than $200 a day. Of course, the Porsche will be a much better car to drive!

Purchase price is largely irrelevent when it comes to car hire companies, as strange as they may seem to some. The 12 month TCO is far more relevant.

I used the purchase price as it is a readily available and simplistic way to compare.

I agree that TCO is far more relevant, but I don't agree that purchase price is largely irrelevant, as TCO is primarily driven by depreciation (purchase price less buy back).

In any event, I don't believe that TCO would be significantly different, as least nowhere near double, as the rental price is!

+1 to that!! Rented one last year for 6 weeks and the wife did not want to return it.

I had a 2.0TDI 140 Highline for 2 years. Beautiful car. Traded it in for a Prado 8 weeks ago, complete with full Bear Grylls bullbar, winch, tyres & rims and all the other 4WD fruit. Stark Contrast. I love the Prado, but I still miss elements of the Passat.

Just another thing....

Looks like Brisbane will be having 2x Boxter Convertibles, while Sydney and Melbourne will have two each of the Cayman coupe models initially. With further growth as the demand picks up.

Thanks for the head up. Looking on the website, it's about $1400-1500 for the Cayman or Boxster for a weekend...considering that these seem to be low-spec models that's a bit pricey for me. For $1500 I'd want to be in a fully loaded GTS!

On the plus side - and perhaps where this pricing is coming from - this is probably still lower than the wedding car companies' sports cars so probably good for that market, where 150km/day would be plenty.

Thanks very much for this - I guess a Boxster weekend with AER works out to be $1,266 then. I assume CDPs etc won't apply for the cars at first either, at least initially?

Also, hoping against hope...I bet these are auto/PDK aren't they? No manuals hidden in there?

When a Porsche is booked it goes under its own CDP hence no corporate rates can be used. They will be all auto's I'm afraid.

(Puts on flame proof yellow tie) The cars will not have inbuilt Nav according to the internal communication bulletin. Customers will be offered a complimentary NeverLost if required.

Given that the Porsche cars are only available at airport stations, why are they charging an extra ~$300 location fee?
I want to pick up at the city station, but Hertz won't let me. Therefore there shouldn't be a forced location fee.

Is there any way to avoid paying the location fee?

Then the car I saw was probably dropped off there.
The "call to book" option is a bit misleading, unless there is an option to arrange a special pick up in the city. Did you try to call Hertz about it?

I've had a Porsche many moons ago (like 25 years, a 928s), while of course nice to have that V8 on the country roads it wasn't really that great for 90% of the driving I did.

I wouldn't hire one for $200 per day.

Have 2 hires coming up next weekend, (both under my name, with my PA taking the second vehicle), have 2x X3's booked and am Pres Circle... Will be interesting to see

Maybe you will get X5 if they have in stock.

Haven't seen a Porshe upgrade but saw someone get a BMW last week from a standard booked.

That happens to me occasionally when I book a Corolla, might have something to do with the Christmas gift of wine I often leave at that particular location
