Hertz Camry uses 28.5l/100km of fuel in Perth

As the title says, according to the refueling charge on my invoice for a rental in Perth last week those Camry's are woeful on fuel :evil: .

Normally fuel up where I can but since I only had travelled 28km in total (PTH-CBD-PTH) I figured the 4 or 5 dollars worth a fuel at double the going rate per litre was not much to worry about, silly me.

Have fed an online complaint into their system 6 days ago and so far no response, sure its only $20 but on corporate rates thats half of the hire charge as an extra, at least in Melbourne the hartz toll charge only comes with a 70% premium to what the public pay.

On a brighter note, Presidents Circle members get 2000 f/f points for free on their birthday, nice unpublished benefit!
 
Don't rental firms normally work in fractions of a tank rather than litres? Maybe you are a victim of rounding :(

a round tank? Perhaps Camrys need a squarer tank instead??
 
I can't spek for Hertz, but one time a similar situation happened to me (with Thrifty). I complained. They calculated the number of K's travelled and recalculated to what became a more acceptable level.

Hence since then I have always checked my opening and closing K's.

Also, slightly OT, I have taken to checking my car for damage every time before and at the conclusion of rental... got stung once for damage. I didn't check so didn't know if the damage happened when I had the car or not.....a lesson well learned.

I've suffered this with a certain 'green' coloured rental company when I know I didn't cause the damage. Our company took them to task and as usually occurs, company size won and we were refunded the charges.

I don't know what the litres/100k is for a Camry, but the fairlane is listed at 17l/100km

It sounds like a mistake in the charging that you received

No. If no refuelling as been done then they calculate the charge based on the number of kilometres driven and the listed calculation of the consumption rate for that vehicle

If more than a tank has been used, then it is based on the litres of fuel needed to top the car up

I don't understand - have you tried just calling Perth Airport branch and pointing this out to them? I had a charging issue relating to Avis at Wellington, and it was fixed by them over the phone within minutes. Online complaint systems are usually notoriously inefficient for fixing simple things like this.

Online complaint systems dont rely on the phone being answered, after three unanswered phone calls to Perth using the direct number I needed to vent somewhere, Perth Hertz seem to be a little lazy, last trip they asked me to meet them at the QF desk as they could not be bothered walking to the VB terminal for one customer!
 
I have encountered a similar problem with Hertz and Perth airport on 15/1. I had a fuel guzzling fairlane and travelled 77kms. For this I was charged $129.83 when I was expecting $15. I picked this up when I downloaded the receipt from their website for my expense claim.
I posted an online enquiry on 22/1 and haven't heard anything as yet. Usually Hertz are good at resolving any issues I've had in the past.
General comments on Perth Hertz compared to other rental centres is that the cars have high mileage, not always cleaned and the operators on the booth are either inexperienced or comatosed.
 
If genuinely wanting to get the overcharging fixed rather than ranting, the quickest and easiest method ime is to just phone Hertz on 03 9698 2444 , ask for Customer Relations and log the complaint with them.

They will take the details, investigate and come back with the issue dealt with within a few days

That would only result in them squaring the figure, which would make it worse :rolleyes:

I have followed the suggested course of action by the local office so I will see what happens, in the meatime its interesting to hear that my experience is not an isolated one when it comes to Perth Hertz, beginning to think its a franchise with the same owners as the airport there, and the same consideration for users of its services :-|

Maybe Perth is the common link. The problems I've had with Europcar have been Perth originated. ... or maybe it's the same franchise :?:
 
I have found a call to the rental office normally results in quick action; if not then contact Rental HQ.

I haven't had an issue in years; but did have an regular one with CBR Hertz.
I once had a situation in Canberra when for a period I traveled there on a weekly basis. An employee was found to be regularly adding five or six litres of fuel to his own car and charging it to company hirings It happened more than once to me and he was found out when once I only did 22km but 'used' over 8 litres of fuel.
In that particular case, most of the corporate types using rentals did not really care/check their documentation, so it was an easy lurk.

I have heard of issues much more widespread than PER.
 
Hertz have responded to my feedback and credited the charge which is much appreciated, just goes to show that their online feedback works (and does not cost a phone call) which is more than can be said for other companies.

Camry's do not have a 28.5L/100km fuel use after all :p

Now isn't this turning into an intersting thread... my experience as noted earlier in this thread also took place in Perth (Thrifty)...
