The Polestars ive hired, all had the 240v charging cable with them.

The Atto3 from Sixt came with the full set of charging cables. They have a tie up with Chargefox. You download the Chargefox App, look up their location and plug in where required. There was one in Moonee Ponds in the shopping centre next door to where we were staying, so that worked out well for us.

I have struggled to set up an account at times and find EV rentals not worth the hassle these days. It does rely on an internet connection that is not always reliable.

Hertz Dumps EV Fleet Because They Think Gas-Powered Cars Can Do Better

The rental fleets will quickly go electric - helps their environmental goals, and big savings in maintenance for the operators.

Then time stop hiring cars in Australia. It should not be my responsibility to charge an electric vehicle. I can fill up petrol in minutes.

P.S. Car hire companies need to seriously factor charging in their car hire rates. $2-$3 a day should just about do it?

I am hearing the opposite, too much hassle for the time-poor renters.

EVs work best when city-driven from home charging, therefore owned, and the infrastructure is available.

As I've mentioned before, last year I rented an EV (much against my will and preference) from Hertz at LHR to drive a 500 mile round trip. The Hertz response when I asked for an IC powered vehicle was take it or leave it (at 6am in the pouring rain the leave it option didn't sound that great).

Anyway, the cost and hassle involved in this rental was huge, with 3 refuelling stops (of about an hour each) and a cost exceeding a petrol powered car (thanks to Hertz' cosy relationship to Shell). Add to that, I couldn't use any 3rd party charging points as they wouldn't accept a non-UK credit card (I now have one, but that's too late).

Not surprised that Hertz is abandoning it's ripoff foray into the EV sphere. It's also put me off Hertz, even though I get good discounts courtesy of my previous employer.

Edit: I do hope that the person who decided to only have EV's available for rent at LHR has been ceremoniously sacked. He/she must have cost Hertz a squillion in depreciation losses, and not to mention customer goodwill.
